I'll be honest and say Shauntal. I've been a fan of her for like ... over a decade and it does get tiring reading the same things over and over again. No, I don't think her career is writing fanfiction smut of her friends. If that makes me boring, I don't care.

Given everything I've read about her in the manga, core games & Masters, she likes writing about the bonds between people and their Pokémon, and children really like her books. She likes interviewing people. She likes to travel. She loves observing Pokémon battles. That isn't to say she doesn't have more adult-centered books (I like to think she delves into horror, mysteries, fantasy, maybe the occasional romance).

She inspired me to pursue my interests in college, because the trainers she meets inspire her and wants to share their story. What's a writer if not writing from your own experiences to give it a more human quality? If she wants to write smut of whatever on her spare time, sure, a lot of people do and there's nothing with that. But, there is a difference between seeing it as a career (which it can be!) or just the butt of a joke.

On the other hand, I do like when people show her asking her fellow Elites to look over her work. I think getting a second or third opinion on anything is great, and if she's writing a biography or dramatization of an experience they most-likely willingly shared with her, then they'd probably want to proofread it.

Listen, I don't want to call it hate or anything but I'm waiting for the day someone can make me like Burgh again. Or the Submas. Or Caitlin. I still adore seeing fanart of them, though. Have fun and I'll admire it! I've just had a lot of negative fandom experiences in the past decade that I'll just stick to headcanoning them on my own time. (like Burgh attending NYU/Castelia University and selling his art at the parks, I really like that idea)

Grimsley still gambling in Alola 😭

Hawaiʻi, the state Alola is based on, has a near-total gambling ban in the same fashion as Utah. That isn't to say illegal gambling isn't an issue, lawmakers are trying to legalize it to regulate it. If canon doesn't matter, then whatever, but I see a lot of people really reiterate someone's characteristics and etc based on the manga and anime. IDK why you wouldn't for the place they are living in. They don't even allow online sports betting or have a state lottery, so I don't think him at the slots or buying scratchers post-BW life makes much sense unless he's traveling. I wouldn't put it past him to get around all of that though, and I have read those stories (mostly in Korean). But, I truly believe he stayed in Alola to better himself, and he'd get his fix at the Battle Tree anyway since battling matters astronomical loads more to him (only second to his Pokémon). The less vice opportunities you have, the better I think, and that man has been through rock bottom TWICE, so I prefer to see it this way. Something something that tumblr post that said if he can't have hope why should I, etc etc.

Can't even begin to describe about how important Shauntal is to me. She is literally my favorite character ever since I played Black and White one silly high school summer.

She really inspired me to strive for what I wanted career-wise, gain experience from different places and dabble in things. I thank her every day for that. She writes about stories that matter to her and I do too but through art. I get really sad when she's reduced to someone who just writes gross fanfiction of her friends 🥲

Shauntal's a best seller with fans who enjoy her stories about trainer adventures and those she crosses paths with! 😭

People take inspiration from what's around them and adapt all kinds of stories. She's SOOOO much more. I see her writing fiction, nonfiction, biographies, memoirs, even a side gig advice column for a magazine (more on that later...). I've done my fair share of marketing/advertising jobs to know it's possible.

The way people inspire her in turn inspires others and I think there's beauty in that. I connect with her so much and Masters has given me enough lore bits to know she's everything I've imagined her to be, right down to her not being a morning person.

I would love to see her cameo in future games. Her traveling to find stories seems really fitting and I have my own plans with that! Slowly I'm posting about it 😅

As for dynamic, I have this little book club for Shauntal and her friends. I think she and Lucian butt heads a lot. Lorelei would be a constant and entertaining friend (that pisces & taurus dynamic 👌🏽👌🏽). Grimsley and Shauntal are night people so they likely hang out more often than the rest and share interest in books (I think Grimsley enjoys reading, contrary to popular belief...). Morty and Shauntal get along so well loving ghosts and myths, as much Cynthia would with her too!

I may suffer from AU brainrot but I think the Volkner we've crafted is just so good. I get really sad when people reduce him to some depressing guy who sends people death threats.

He has so much more potential to be a really strong trainer and amazing friend, who can tease his friends every now and then in good sport while also battling through his own personal struggles and helping his friends too.

In Masters, he talks about not wanting to be an Elite Four despite being asked. And, it was more over someone giving him an earful about not renovating the League building (which I can only assume was about having the freedom to do as he pleases). I'd like to bet it was Lucian; I think they got some beef I'm dying to know about.

Given how he responds to you and the actions he takes in the main games, part of me feels like he might be denying that part of himself to fulfill a role in his hometown. I'm positive that even Flint is encouraging him and the town might one day. He's always looking for a good challenge and challenges the League often... I mean, he WAS looking at the League through a telescope, too.

He too can appreciate a good thrill. I think besides Flint, he'd be incredible friends with people like Grimsley, Morty, Elesa, Siebold, Marshal, Skyla and Viola.
