Sailor Moon Dream Cast: The Dark Kingdom
Before I move on to the Outer Sailor Scouts, I believe the cast is incomplete for a first season of a live action without The Dark Kingdom cast.
Let's start with the Four Generals of Prince Endymion, or the Four Heavenly Kings. Not only are these generals used for Queen Beryl's purpose after the rebirth, but they have a history with the Sailor Scouts in their past lives.
It is important to note that each of the four generals is in charge of a different section of Earth: Jadeite is the Far East, Nephrite is North America, Zoisite is Europe, and Kunzite is the Middle East. I am choosing the actors based on their area of representation.
Side Note: I think it is interesting that South America, Central America, Africa, and Oceania are not represented. Just as we are introduced to four outer senshi later in the series, if the Producer/Director wanted to put their stamp on the Sailor Moon franchise, I think making four new generals to be the opposites of the outer senshi would be interesting. I think my next post will play with this idea.
The Four Generals:
Jadeite: Jadeite is known for his blonde hair and blue eyes, but he is also the general over the Far East which includes countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Siberia (Russia), Mongolia, and Taiwan. I felt like the actor should represent this area, but we can dye his hair and give him blue contacts. After all, Jadeite is the master of disguise. The actor I have chosen is Pierce Kang, who is of Korean descent. He is 16 years old, which makes him the youngest of the generals, which is exactly what Jadeite is. Jadeite is opposite of Sailor Mercury, making Pierce Kang the opposite of Trinity Jo-Li Bliss.
Nephrite: His brown wavy hair is iconic for this character, he is the representation of North America, and his eyes are shown as dark blue. However, because he is the opposite of Sailor Jupiter, I thought an actor with green eyes would nod at their connection and also the color of the nephrite stone. I chose Canadian born Jacob Tremblay, who will be playing opposite of Maya Le Clark.
Zoisite: Since Zoisite is the general of Europe, I have chosen English actor Austin Haynes to portray him since both have green eyes. It is important to note that Zoisite's hair color changes from manga, to 90s anime, to Sailor Moon Crystal, so I think Austin's natural hair color will work fine. Now, Zoisite is the opposite of Sailor Mars, so Austin Haynes will be opposite of Kai Cech.
Kunzite: Although his name was changed to Malachite in the American version of the 90's anime, I think we should stick with Kunzite. Known for his long white hair and gray eyes, I believe these iconic traits will pop against the skin tone of Bodhi Sabongui. Kunzite represents the Middle East, and Bodhi Sabongui is of Egyptian descent. I needed an actor with a commanding presence to play Kunzite, and I think Bodhi has what is needed. He will be opposite of our Sailor Venus, Valentina Gordan.
The Queens of the Dark Kingdom We cannot not have a kingdom without its royalty.
Queen Beryl: Queen Beryl was originally a sorceress on Earth who was jealous of the love Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity shared. As a sorceress, she has the ability, among others, of brainwashing, which is how she takes hold of the four generals. I have chosen the 31 year old English actress Lily Newmark. Currently, Lily is in the FX show "Alien: Earth", but has been acting since 2017, steadily. I have chosen her because of her versatility in her voice and facial expressions, not to mention the red hair. With Lily being 31, it creates that "eww" factor that the manga and anime were trying to create when she tries to force Darien to love her, but sometimes age doesn't show as clearly in drawings and anime as it does with live action films.
Queen Metalia: Since Queen Metalia is a non-corporeal, amorphous energy-based being, who was born from the radioactivity of the sun. Since she does not have a form, I have chosen a voice actor to help bring this character to life. The voice actor I have chosen is Rebecca Lee. I chose her based on her Character/Animation voice which can be found at this website: https://rebeccaleespeaks.com/.
