Zuko smiles at her again. It’s a bright, shiny, wonderful thing that makes his eyes twinkle. A child of Agni, as his people would say; one who shall light the way by the sheer force of his grin alone. Ridiculous. Absurd. Beautiful. Katara has to squash the brief, incessant urge to freeze the rice and dab the starchy ice against her searing face. “Okay,” he replies, and he just keeps looking at her, chopsticks hanging limp from his fingers. “We’re a team, Katara. It’s as simple as that.”
Katara likes Zuko. Like, really, really likes Zuko.
