@forgotten-retrouvaille and I wanted to rewrite A Thing TM.
Cass wraps her arms around herself in a futile attempt to warm up, her brown eyes searching the shadowy depths of the snow-covered forest lurking in the distance. her husband would have something poetic to say about the whole situation, probably — and miles to go before I sleep, or something along those lines. she'd had to memorize that particular poem back when she was still in school, but… doesn't Matías get it? woods are never a place of comfort; in the woods, no one — and she does mean no one — has to play by the rules.
"You need to stay away from me."
from [jill] here
“Jill? Is something wrong?” Sheva asked, tilting her head to get a closer look at the other. The newspaper on her desk told a story of a wild animal — something large, likely a bear — killing some humans. The humans’ connection to Umbrella wasn’t reported on at all, and Sheva didn’t seem to notice any parallel between the story and the person in front of her. Jill’s teeth caught the light just so, however, and Sheva looked a little startled. “You’ve got some sharp teeth.”
Sheva split the challah bread she was currently enjoying in two, and she offered Jill the other half. The other’s appetite was insatiable as of late, and sharing bread had always been their thing. She smiled at the other woman, but it was an uneasy smile. Sheva seemed tense, on edge — terrified was a better word for it. Something about those teeth unsettled her to her core, and she tugged her red hoodie a little tighter around herself.
“Have you eaten recently?”
👫 + quynh
four (ish) headcanons for our muses :)
Quynh has known who Jill was for what feels like almost as long as she’s known who Booker is. In nearly every dream of his deaths she’s had, Jill is in the background or trying to save him somehow. She’s genuinely surprised when she goes to his apartment at the end of the first film and finds Jill has iced him out, too.
Quynh sends Jill graphic videos of her torture of Booker as a way to draw her out. Quynh filmed a lot of Jill when she was being mind controlled in re5 as part of a torture mechanism as well, so not only is this graphic and horrific, but it specifically plays on her past traumas.
Quynh contemplated killing Jill during re5 just to fuck with the rest of the Guard, but she wasn’t ready to make her presence so broadly known at the time. She’s still considered this multiple times in the present day, and it’s something she lords over Booker as a reason for why he should help her find the Guard. He refuses to help her (in main verse), though, which means torture city for him. Neither Quynh nor Booker have told Jill about this.
Quynh doesn’t like Jill because she reminds her somewhat of her younger self with her desire to do good & reputation for helping others. She’d rather die than admit that, though.
She tried to drown Jill at least once if not multiple times during re5 and/or during Vol II.
"You're a long way from the office."
The benefit of being really, really, really high up on this mountain was being damn near impossible to surprise. Vast distances were available to him through his scope, and he'd watched her make her way up here carefully, in case she was followed. To his knowledge, she hadn't been.
He's dressed in his HWS uniform, though he's not on a mission with Chris at this time. He just wanted to get away. Practice, he tells people. But Jill had to have come here looking specifically for him...right? @forgotten-retrouvaille

The thing is, Jake knows he's self-centered at heart.
It never used to bother him, or at least, he told himself it didn't. And that didn't take much effort, either, because why should he give a shit about other people in a world where no-one left gave a shit about him? As far as he was concerned, people couldn't be trusted. Things like kindness and selflessness - they were just masks that hid the faces of traitors, people who refused to be honest; be it with him or with themselves.
In contrast, a nice, transactional relationship was something far more reliable. And yeah, maybe a few nice people might end up getting hurt by him because of that - but if it hadn't been him, it just would've been someone else, right? The people who paid him weren't people who'd stop just because he told them no.
In hindsight, it's starkly obvious just how much those cheap lines were nothing more than excuses. Probably, he'd known that all along, but it was only when Sherry came along that he'd been forced to confront the person he'd become, and how that man was someone he didn't like. But... even now, has he really changed all that much? Jake has his doubts. If all he wants is to be able to look at himself in the mirror, and for Sherry to see him with something other than disgust, then it's still ultimately selfishness driving him, isn't it?
Maybe that's fine. Maybe not. It's easy to shove it to the side when he isn't hanging around in a place like this, but here... here, everyone's got a look in their eye when they see him - like he's something dirty - that makes it obvious that the man they're really seeing isn't him at all.
"I've heard about you. You're that Jill that Redfield mentioned, aren't you?" Jake speaks first, not bothering to wait and see if she's the same as the rest of them. "I'd say sorry to show up uninvited like this, but... I bet you knew I was coming anyway."
@forgotten-retrouvaille ( starter! )
@forgotten-retrouvaille is fam at the clerb
Chris makes his way through the crowd and passes Jill her beer. In his hand for himself is a strawberry margarita that he sips without a single care for how it looked. He speaks up over the music.
"One or two more of these and I'm going to make you dance, Valentine. You know that." He grins at her playfully, fully intending on tonight being a memorable one.
