OKAY LET ME RAMBLE. my ideas of how they got together + why they like each other below the cut bc it is longgg
so. im a big fan of Kai and Cole don't realize they like each other like that until they think it's too late (Kai + Skylor, and then Geo + Cole) and so like. kai realizes he likes Cole that way (him n skylor split amicably even though i love kailor too) but it's post merge and when he finds Cole again he looks like he's with Geo n seems happy!!! and kai's happy he's happy. but he wishes he realized it sooner
and this can go two ways and each way i love. one: Kai feels like he's getting in the way of coles relationship with geo and doesn't realize that they both really like him even when he starts to love geo too. geo starts loving him when he sees like how protective he is of Cole and his family and stuff, and Coles always loved Kai (though he also assures geo that he didn't "settle for him" bc he didn't have Kai) and they slowly just kinda integrate him and when he finally is like "urggrhrh I feel like I'm intruding on your relationship bc I still really like you Cole and i like you too geo" n they're like "i thought we were already dating???" and Kai combusts
OR kai and geo actually connect really quickly n Cole ends up feeling like his crushes are into each other and not him (bc him and geo aren't "together" yet) n gets really sad because they're making such good friends and againnn just like earlier he's getting left behinddd but then Kai uses his blacksmith skills n geo uses his fusion element n they make Cole smth and he's like "wait you guys want me too 🥺" and then they all make a poly together
as for why they love each other!!!
i think that with Cole it started both as Kai is hella attractive and ALSO very protective of family and friends. he's encouraging and I think cole would feel a lot more free around him bc kai is someone who wants to protect him n stuff. the reasons are similar with geo! he's physically attractive, and he loves his family and is loyal n willing to protect them no matter what (he has a type and it's caretakers. prolly bc he's used to being the one caring for ppl)
meanwhile kai also finds Cole attractive right off the bat, but ends up actually falling for him over the years when he sees how genuinely kind and respectful cole is. i rlly like the idea that kai was a super closeted bisexual early on and he sees Cole just very openly being himself and admires that about him. he meets Geo later on and again. geo just stuns him with how nice he is, especially if the scenario is option one of the two options I listed earlier. plus i think he'd surprise Kai with how good he is at fighting for someone with no training. kai likes strong men
and then i think geo falls for Cole because of how good he is with the kids in the LOLT. like this stranger falls from the sky and is just the kindest person and obviously loves playing with the kids and making them happy, and i think that's something that's really important to him. with kai I'd imagine he feels just the smallest bit awkward around him because he knew Cole longer and first, but when kai just doesn't mind it on top of being great with the kids and being fiercely protective, he starts to fall for him too
