“Those who cross Andross will die!”
Of all the Star Fox pieces I did last summer, this one is the biggest and certainly one of my favourites. The various representatives/lieutenants/bosses of Andross’ empire as seen in Star Fox 64 and Zero.
This was such a fun one to work on, trying to portray the different personalities of each pilot or lieutenant from what little the games showed of them, as well as sprinkling in a few extra details of my own. The primates were so much fun, they’re my wife’s favourites (Granga especially) so I had to do them all justice. I’ve seen several interpretations of them where they have mechanical eyes/visors built into their faces, while I prefer the idea that their glowing eyes are a stylistic choice and they have regular eyes underneath their helmets. Benjamin proved to be a challenge in this regard, so I just have the brim of his engineers cap obscuring his eyes.
I tried to make the reptiles noticeably more reptilian/crocodilian, as the games were somewhat ambiguous about their designs. Caiman looks more like a caiman now, instead of just being a reskin of Granga. The Attack Carrier pilot was given a gross smushed face in 64 3D and Zero that I never saw him having in the N64 version and the Area 6 Commander got similar treatment. Andross himself I once again based on his Adventures design as I love how wrinkled and scarred that game made him. He looks even more monstrous than a disembodied head can look and I can’t wait to see him in motion in the Switch 2 version.
Ok they just made him straight up chopped in the remake
No one gets the Star Fox 64 bosses like I do. I care them deeply. I'm probably the only fan of them lmaooo
I did these on Procreate when my laptop was broken and couldn't draw.
It was really fun to revisit these guys again.
Sub Captain is the only one of them that's used to waking up super early, hence why he's the only one fully dressed.
