Every Mystery Leaves Clues

The three knocks echoed through everyone's thoughts long after the campfire burned low.

By morning, the forest was alive once again.

Birds sang from the treetops.

The river rushed over smooth stones.

If not for the memory of the night before, everything seemed perfectly peaceful.

After breakfast, Brock Gold #46 gathered the Golden Bros around the map.

"We're not chasing ghosts," he said.

"We're following clues."

The group returned to the edge of the forest where the knocking had come from.

Almost immediately, one Bro noticed something.

Broken branches.

Freshly disturbed soil.

Large footprints pressed into the soft earth.

Not threatening.

Just... unusually large.

Another Bro crouched beside them.

"Whatever made these... it's heavy."

Brock studied the tracks for a moment before smiling.

"Good."

The others looked at him in confusion.

"Good?"

"If something leaves footprints..."

"...it means it's real."

He stood and adjusted his backpack.

"Real things can be understood."

The trail wound deeper through towering pines, over moss-covered rocks, and beneath fallen logs.

Every so often, they found another footprint.

Another broken branch.

Another clue.

Then the trail simply...

Stopped.

The footprints disappeared on solid stone.

No tracks.

No broken branches.

Nothing.

Only silence.

One younger Bro looked around nervously.

"Where did it go?"

Before anyone could answer...

A loud crack echoed high above them.

Every head snapped upward.

A massive pinecone crashed through the branches and landed with a heavy thud only a few feet away.

For a heartbeat...

Nobody moved.

Then Brock picked it up, turning it over in his hands.

He looked toward the treetops.

"...Tomorrow," he said quietly.

"I think we're finally getting closer."
