Ghost was pushing you. That's the only explanation for his actions. You didn't understand why he went harder on you than any other recruit.
So, you pushed yourself even more when he wasn't watching. You wanted to impress him. You wanted to impress all of your superiors. It didn't matter that your hours of sleep were dwindling dangerously low.
You were getting better, your results more apparent to everyone.
You were faster than the other recruits, had better endurance, you could fight hand to hand better. You could lift more. It didn't matter that you had deep bags hanging beneath your eyes. It didn't matter that you nodded off when you had a moment to stand still. You were doing so good, you couldn't give up now.
Not until it was another day under Ghost's watchful command. Every push-up harder than the last, your vision going spotty.
"Up! Down! Up! Down!" Ghosts shouts, voice in time with a metronome. He was stomping around all the recruits, correcting postures or yelling at someone. "Get up, recruit!"
You start to get up, vision going dangerously blurry. You think you slur out an affirmative, you aren't sure. Time seems to slow for a second before your vision goes completely black.
~
What you don't see is the way Ghost's eyes widen as your body suddenly collapses, the way he jerks to try and catch you before your head hits the ground. He's fast but not fast enough. Guilts paints his mind, worry smudging his clear thoughts.
Picking you up is easy, even for a recruit of your size, you should be weighing more. Especially with the amount of muscle on you.
Ghost rushes to the infirmary, yelling at them for attention. He's directed to laying you on a bed, he's so deceptively gentle with it.
The nurses ask him to leave but the dead-eye stare he gives them in return has them flustering and murmuring its okay. He doesn't want to leave you, he has to make sure you're okay. It was all his fault- he had been pushing you too hard.
Pushing you so hard the rest of the Task Force noticed.
Ghost remembers Price telling him to take it easier on you, Soap trying to take over his training days to keep you away. His sharp eyes didn't miss the way Gaz tried to slide you more energy bars to make up for Guost's harshness.
He had caused this.
~
By time you wake up, some several hours later, Ghost has cleared out. But in his place stands Price, carefully watching over you and your vitals. He didn't want to make it worse and scar you when you woke up so he entrusted you to Price - Price could take care of you if Ghost couldn't.
Even when you're cleared from infirmary, he makes his guilt apparent in other ways. He's softer towards you, softer than he should be. It leaves you reeling. You aren't sure how to handle this new side of him.
Ghost makes the cooks give you a larger portion to make up for the calorie deficit. Gaz and Soap enforce stricter lights out rules for him - making sure you don't have any midnight trainings.
He just wants to protect you but he's not sure how to show you that. Ghost can't show you how important you are to him.
Bruce (wrongfully, he can admit that now) agreed with people who thought there was something wrong with Jason. He didn’t understand. Sure, Dick was an angry kid, but his anger was targeted. It was revenge. It was familiar to Bruce’s own anger. He understood it. He was able to related to Dick, to guide him. Jason was different. Bruce didn’t understand. He didn’t understand, just like the rest of the upper class Bruce brushed shoulders with. He didn’t understand, just like Jim who despite all the corruption of the police force still had respect for the law and lived a fairly normal life with the means to take care of a family that he loved.
Bruce didn’t understand. He never frequented crime alley. And when he did, he never stayed longer than it took to rescue a child who of course would be acting out in distress from a rogue attack. He never visited the orphanages he funded longer than it took to take a tour and maybe read a book. He never lingered. For all Bruce was a detective, he didn’t understand because he never observed.
There was nothing wrong with Jason. He was a child. He was traumatized. He grew up in a bad situation. He didn’t trust adults. He didn’t trust cops. He didn’t trust where his next meal came from. He didn’t trust kindness without expectations of something in return. He could only bluster through with bravado and anger because showing fear put him at risk.
There was nothing wrong with Jason. But Bruce had bought into the narrative. And perhaps, kept buying into it rather than admit his own fault when Jason came back. It was easier to accept all Jason had changed if he believed Jason had always been that way. That maybe if Bruce hadn’t believed it then, it wouldn’t be true now.
Jason, returned, is still trying to prove that there’s nothing wrong with him.
Maybe one day Bruce will see that he is wrong now, too.
I found a dead yellow jacket I wanted to take (had the gut feeling I should, Loki encouraged I felt) for like a baneful protection thing or to add to my already decently potent war water but I bitched out bc I didn't know enough also the concept of yellow jacket pheromones scared me a bit.
But if I *did* take it it would've gone with the dead spiders I had the the feeling he urged me to take and the moth wing.
....
Is being a witch just collecting dead animals for baneful wards?
writing a weird book with only 4 characters to worry about really gives you the freedom to create side characters like a cursed waymo from the 60s that probably needs to be humanely euthanized. you can't use it to go anywhere but it WILL deliver you a cryptic message.

is it just me or is anyone else confused about the i saw the tv glow trend… like ik it’s a queer movie and the glow represents transgenderism but like why do other non trans queer ppl do the trend? i thought it was just for trans ppl, like trans people are only 1.6% of the population and i feel like they should have there own thing.
Since you are so open to write something... do you have any early peraltiago headcanons? or something you might have imagined happend in their early days as a couple?
PERALTIAGO HEADCANONS
it’s been a while since I’ve seen the first headcanons so I defiantly had to go read some recaps but it’s fine
these mostly if not all take place during season three
these aren’t really in a particular order
The first few times they go out on official dates Amy always orders four shots
Jake ofc being the great guy he is notices and calls Amy out on it
Amy admits she’s just nervous about not being as experienced as the other girls Jake has been with
Jake then shuts her up with a kiss and tells her she’s great no matter if she’s acting like a pervert or not
Both Amy and Jake are secretly happy the squad found out about their relationship because they’re both so proud
Despite being a rule follower it was actually Amy who kept being a little too affectionate in the workplace before Holt called her out
It made Jake swell with pride that he was wearing off on her
Jake talked a lot about Amy to his mom but didn’t actually tell her he liked her until they started dating
Her only response was, “I’ve always known you liked her. I’m just glad you got your head out of your ass before it was too late.”
When Amy finally said I love you she almost cried when Jake said it back because she had a bad habit of saying it too soon
Later that night Jake admits the reason he was so hesitant to say it was because of his parents, but he realized that he loved her too much to ever turn out like them
Amy actually cries then
Amy is the one who convinces Jake to go get tested for ADHD
Amy also notices he starts a lot of sentences that he doesn’t finish
at first she thinks its the ADHD but soon relaizes its something more
Jake admits he’s scared to tell her too much because if they break up she could use it against him
Amy is at first hurt but that, but eventually understands and insists that she will never, and he doesn’t have to share anything he doesn’t have too
Jake has a lot more finished sentences after that and it was his way of saying I love you without using the words
It’s three in the morn’
And I am making pancakes
You guys want any?
