Chapter 3 of The Force Awakens REDUX is now live!!
Please go read it, the two people that care lol
"So I slipped into that pretty, black mess
Sold my soul, and yeah, it made less
Than I knew I could get on for it"
But it's Ben Solo (NOT Kylo Ren. BEN.)
I kinda wish Rey had called herself Rey Solo instead of Skywalker. I get why they chose Skywalker but part of my problem I have with the Rise of the Skywalker script is how easily Rey seems to just get past the fact Ben is dead. Or seems like she doesn't care as much as the kiss with him conveys. I understand shes happy all her friends are alive but her dyad is gone. Surely that would leave an emptiness within her. This is definitely one of the many reasons why I think Adam Driver is absolutely right to bring back Ben.
Rey, woman from nowhere will always be famous to me....
Seriously, how can you not adore her?
And Finn the Stormtrooper who dared to be more too. And Poe the only man who's ever somehow been the actual best in the world and still not half as good as he thinks he is. Even dicknips Kylo Ren the least toxic 30 year old Star Wars fanboy.
Sequel duology cast my beloveds.

So it's apparently Force Awakens 10th anniversary and I still haven't watched rest of the Sequel Trilogy
Star Wars: the Force Awakens
It's the 10th anniversary for the Force Awakens and I thought it would be fun to try and improve the minifigures from that movie. They were already pretty good but I wanted to add just a little bit more to them.
Okay so my kid recently got us to do a rewatch of all nine Star Wars movies. And it reminded me about the strong feelings that I have about Kylo’s redemption arc. So here I am, coming back from ages of tumblr silence, to unload haha.
I LOVE a good redemption arc, okay? I am a total sucker for dark and twisty characters finding a reason to “see the light” if you will and clawing their way back to the side of good. Or at least doing their own version of good or being heroic in their own way (looking at you, Loki Odinson). I even like some of Kylo’s arc - wounded boy realises he’s been manipulated by the big bad and thwarts the villain’s expectations to show up at the eleventh hour to help save the day? Beautiful.
But the Kylo/Rey romance as the main motivator for this arc drives. Me. Bananas. And I know that’s a super unpopular opinion in the fandom, but I stand by it. I’m all for villainous characters being heroic in the end. But I cannot stand that Rey falls in love with Ben. I don’t care how heroic he was, I don’t care what kind of a spark for good she felt in him. She can know there’s good in him without falling in love with the man who tortured her. And her friends. And killed his dad. And insulted her time and time again. Yes, Ben Solo was seduced to the Dark Side and became Kylo Ren. But the things he did were still his own choices. Manipulated or not, he still chose to torture people. He still chose to hurt people. He still chose over and over again to tell Rey that she was nothing, she was insignificant, she meant nothing without him.
And I’ve seen the posts about the “subtext” in what he said. But he still chose to be cruel and hurtful to the person he was trying to stand beside.
Beyond that, what gets me the most is that there is never a moment where Ben has to atone for what he did. He never apologized to Rey, never had to build her trust in him, none of it. He just showed up in the final fight and all was forgiven. Rey spends three movies struggling to trust that Poe and Finn have her back because she was abandoned by her parents. So why does Ben get such an easy free pass?
I could go on and on about the newest three movies. I mostly enjoyed them, and I think they had absolutely incredible potential, but missed the mark on a number of points. But there’s my rant about Reylo.
