Foolish Rambles (P4R Website Breakdown)
Holy shit Persona 4 Revival looks so fucking good. Like, HOLY SHIT I can not wait for February.
With that being said...let's look at the website!
Persona 4 Revival, like I thought it would and many others did as well, will be releasing early next year in February. With the trailer, the website was updated to include a bunch of new information about the game and its new/returning mechanics.
Let's start with the notable returning stuff.
ALL GOLDEN CONTENT WILL BE AVAILABLE IN BASE GAME.
Unlike Episode: Aigis in Persona 3, this was way less likely to be DLC for many reasons such as how the content is basically all across the game rather than at the end and of course, it is way better for it.
DLC COSTUMES AND EXTRA PERSONA WILL RETURN.
Similar to both Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5, the game will have extra bonuses for pre-orders and enhanced editions, notably including all Semester Three personas from Persona 5 Royal and Metis' persona as well. This edition will also include the S.E.E.S. battle armor from Reload. Neat.
ALL SOCIAL LINKS WILL BE VOICED LIKE RELOAD'S
Again, it was expected but it will be very nice to listen to the new voice actors try their hand at the game. Also, Nanako is no longer voiced by a Republican, which is great.
As well as this, the remake is teasing a bunch of new content never seen in either Persona 4 Golden or the franchise as a whole including Persona 3 Reload. So what exactly is this new stuff?
POTENTIAL SOCIAL LINK ABILITIES SIMILAR TO PERSONA 5.
Now, this is sort of speculation, but with the wording there is a potential for Persona 4 to introduce more out-of-battle abilities for the game rather than being bonuses in combat. Again, this could just be new wording for the abilities that these characters get during their social link, but still.
NEW GAME-PLAY MECHANICS.
Similar to Metaphor:Refantazio's surprise attack mechanics, Persona 4 will be introducing more unique out-of-battle combat which includes the ability to parry enemies and attack them for unique bonuses besides just going first. As well as this...
Baton Pass will be returning from Persona 5 after skipping Persona 3 Reload.
Therugies have been replaced with Series Finale which is shard by the entire party rather than being for each individual, at least from what can be gathered from the footage. It could be individual based, but that's my guess.
And there is a new unique ability similar to Technical from Persona 5 where if an enemy inflicted with a status aliment is hit with an attack they can hit ANOTHER enemy and knock them both down.
PERSONA ABILITIES RETURNING
After skipping Persona 3 Reload, Persona traits are returning as seen in this screenshot. As a side note, it also is confirmed that there will only be one physical option, which is in line with the original. It is still to be determined if Persona 4 Revival will introduce normal dark and light spells like Persona 3 Reload did in its remake.
NEW PERSONAS?!?!
In a first for the series for the first time in a LONG WHILE, Persona 4 Revival will be introducing new Personas for the main character to use from the Shin Megami Tensei series, with Inanna being nowhere in the mainline Persona series.
NEW DUNGEON ROOMS
While they still appear to be randomly generated, the dungeons do have new dungeon rooms and layouts which will definitely help with the monotony of going through them to grind or to get through them.
In short, there is A LOT of new and returning stuff in Persona 4 Revival that sets it apart from the original while also being the definitive way to play at least from what we've seen. It also appears to be fixing a lot of issues I had with the game on a gameplay perspective. As well as this, it also might be given the chance to correct it's...infamous...English translation of several characters including Teddie.
The only downside I can see is that this remake will ignite the Naoto and Kanji discourse for a whole new generation. Speaking of which...
THEY ALL LOOK SO FUCKING GOOD! WE'RE SO UP!
Also Persona 6 is real. I actually left the Xbox Game Showcase early thinking that was it only to be flash banged by the announcement later. I think it's interesting that they're going back to the roots of the series and delving into the more gothic and supernatural aspect of Persona that got lost over the games and remakes/re-releases. It'll be interesting to see where they go with this.
