Soft, in the sunset glow, the wind gently caressed your face. While the day was near its end, the life in the field around you held promise of continuation; by the trees and their whispers, and the small stream you sat near, your eyes could close yet sound carry your ears further.
It was a beautiful day to embrace.
Before you could lose yourself to the calls of nature, a sudden brush against your cheek grounded you.
âPenny for your thoughts?â
You smiled, grin wide, and turned to the sweet voice of your lover.
âDo my thoughts amount to a penny for you?â
As the light caught on his golden skin, Foolishâs beam emulating the sun itself, its charm a show of natural beauty and feature.
âI would hope our relationship would grant me some leeway,â he teased, now lowering himself from his kneeled position besides you. You waited as he fully seated himself, giggling when he fell back with an ungraceful grunt from the weight of gravityâs pull.
His deadpan expression made you laugh further, all guilt fictitious once noting the smile he held in his eyes.
âYou would hope wrong, then,â you eventually elucidated, a sly smirk drawn on your lips.
With an offended scoff, Foolish pouted childishly, drawing more laughter from you.
Try if he might, he failed to hide his own amusement from the situation, eventually falling into a shared fit that echoed for all to hear. You leaned forwards, allowing your head to collapse against his shoulder. As you were weak in your state, you grasped the fabric of his top pathetically in an attempt to hold yourself together.
Though the original intent fell short of its cause, the effort allowed you to hold him closer than before.
Reaching a point of calm, you paused to gather your breath. A smile adorned your face in a sense of satisfaction, yet it fell slowly once noting the silence that followed. Foolish was suspiciously quiet, suddenly still under your touch as if in deep thought.
It was uncharacteristically worrisome considering how quick the atmosphere changed with his lack of smile.
âFoolish? What is it?â
He didnât hear you through the fog of his mind, unsettling you further by the possibilities that could lay under feat. You grabbed his arm, and briefly shook it.
âFoolish.â
Jolting from your sudden pull, Foolish blinked repeatedly before taking note of your concern, brows likely furrowed with a tense frown.
He had the audacity to smile sympathetically, as if the worry he raised was nothing more than an accident.
Without loosing eye contact, he began to reach into his satchel slowly.
âSo, I know we said no giftsââ
Immediately, you scoffed and let go of his trapped arm, almost throwing the limb roughly from you by his stubborn kindness.
âDonât you daââ
ââbut I couldnât go on knowing you didnât have something to commemorate the day with.â
âFoolish, seriously, I meant it when I saidâŚâ
There, like many moments in your relationship, he had won the trivial argument before you could say reason.
âFor you,â he stated, tone something fearful yet simultaneously confident. Though many could attest to your levels of observation, you could barely register the nerves imbedded in his intentions.
âA rose?â
Foolish hummed, and you moved to take the stem delicately.
âItâs beautiful.â
Like the polished gleam of his lustrous skin, it was only until the light of day caught on the petalsâ fickle edge did the face of reality strike you; moreover, with reality brought the carried weight of the precious metal.
âItâs encased in gold?â
Your voice was barely above a whisper, breathless by the affectionate, devoted, gesture in whole. Your finger traced the smooth gloss, the sunglow hue thin yet firm by its resonant promise of solidity.
In truth, the encasing was a show, rather than promise, of love.
âPossibly,â he muttered back, his confirmation drawing tears out of the veracity you easily concluded yourself.
Helpless to the overwhelming emotion of warmth, your gaze shifted between his tender expression and the preserved flower, forever frozen in the precious, melted ore.
âYouâŚâ
Words failed you as you choked on a silent sob. Choosing to act in place of speak, you jumped forwards to hug him tightly, with Foolish there to effortlessly hold you in return.
Steady and secure in his arms, you willed yourself to pull away as to cup his face, unfaltering in strives to touch his lips with your own.
A nimble hand propped your chin higher, the other reaching to clean the salty film which unceremoniously fell from closed eyes. You opened them to meet his adored ones, their wet fondness rivaling the tears that filled yours.

âY/n? Y/n!â
Balancing on the edge of the ladder ridge, you peeked below your outreached arm to see Foolish waving widely at you below on the ground.
âOH. HEY LOVE!â You tried to move and wave down at him but lost your footing for a moment and struggled on the snowy, thin wood. Hands on his head, Foolish became panicked at your brief clumsiness.
âStop! What are you doing??â You chuckled loudly at his concern yet managed to stabilize yourself after a few seconds.
âI finished the colored tapestries this morning and wanted to hang them up!â you yelled at him. Looking back to the roof trim, you stretched your arm further to hang the blue fabric on the distant nail before the ladder began to wobble shakily.
In spite of the risk, you grunted from the movement and moved your arm further out, desperately pulling on the cloth to hook it. While ambitious, your objective was the sun as you were Icarus.
Your eyes widened as you tipped forward, your foot caught momentarily on the ladder before the weight of gravity pulled you free completely. With a gasp, you fell into the open air while the remaining tapestry blinded you, engulfing you from its given length as it fluttered in free-fall.
There wasnât time to scream as the shock of no grounding paralyzed you, the realization that you were helpless to plummeting to your death hitting you faster than the wind.
You hugged yourself tight and clenched your eyes in fear of what was to come.
Suddenly, the crowding air stopped altogether, your back hitting something firm yet soft. Shrouded by the stitched cloth, you pulled it off of your head to welcome the sight of Foolish hovering over you.
He was in his Godly form, you noted, yet the concern present in his eyes were obvious and tentative. While panting deeply to catch your breath, Foolish slowly raised a cautious finger towards you, resting it in front of you in his attempts to comfort you to the best of his abilities in his current form.
Tears began to fall from the overwhelming emotions that consumed you, yet you smiled through the revelation from his attempt and grasped his finger with your hand. âThank you, Foolish. I donât know what I would have done if you werenât always there to catch me.â
He leaned closer and nodded earnestly without breaking eye-contact. Always
âHey yä¸â He stopped himself as he turned, a look of confusion briefly filling his expression at the sight of you until he suddenly became nervous.
âWhy do you have balloons? Why do you have so many balloons? I didnât miss anything today, right? I swear I thought our anniversary wasnât for another few weeks, so surely it canât be that. Gods, if I forgot something, Iâm so s-â
You giggled from his panicky rant, his words too fast that you didnât bother trying to stop him. He stopped once realizing you were laughing at him, and the poor demi-god could do nothing but stare in more confusion to the situation while you cackled harder.
Once you were able to collect yourself and catch your breath, you smiled at him sweetly.
âBubs. You didnât forget anything, youâre fine.â Foolish visibly exhaled a sigh of relief that made you smile, his fear of missing something extremely heartwarming. Lifting the balloons you tightly grasped in your fist, you raised it towards him with an excited grin.
âI got them for us both to suck on!â
Foolish froze, the words that you said completely unexpected. He glanced to his side before staring at you strangely, eyes narrow with almost concern to what you had just said.
âUm, what did you just⌠what did you just say?â You werenât able to pick up on his tone, eyes still wide with excitement while you nodded eagerly.
âI got us balloons to suck the helium!â you exclaimed, repeating yourself in the exact same voice before.
âHelium?â
âHelium!â
âIs it some kind of drugâŚ?â You paused, doing a double take from his question and suddenly reading the lost look he had.
âWait, Foolish, you know what helium is, right?â He glared at you incredulously, waving his arms on his side.
âOf course I know what helium is! Iâm just so confused as to why you want to suck on it!â
The space was quiet, and you only smiled brightly to his ignorance. Silently, you handed him the balloons while keeping one for yourself, dancing in place from the expected anticipation of his reaction.
Undoing the knot, you breathed out before placing your mouth on the dark blue rubber plastic, intaking the gas in a single, deep inhale. Pulling the balloon away, you beamed at him before speaking.
âLook how high my voice is now!â
While your raised your arms with a shake of jazz hands, he stared at you in horror, eyes wide with a mouth agape.
âIsnât it cool! Iâm like the little piss baby now!â
Foolish wasnât moving, still frozen in his unsettled expression.
You dropped your arms, and titled your head at his lack of response.
âFoolish?â you asked, your voice returning to its natural state. Foolish only swallowed harshly before expressing his bewilderment, which you were prepared for.
âWhat the hä¸â
âShhh, itâs alright bubs. Just suck the plastic with me.â
