Yellowing leaves serve a purpose. I don’t worry too much when I see them. Ever since the growing season started, my anthurium has been thirstier and hungrier than ever! She’s been pushing out inflo after inflo, each time draining the oldest leaves of it nutrients. I’ve made note of this and doing my best to both increase the frequency of watering and up the fertilizer. Since consistently doing so, after a few months, not only has the rate of yellowing leaves slowed dramatically, but she’s working on a new leaf (possibly the largest yet). So exciting! Never Never Plant, Prayer Plant or Ctenanthe (Ctenanthe Setosa “Silver Star” or “Grey Star”) Ctenanthe is an evergreen perennial that is native to Central and South America (mainly Brazil). This plant is grown for it’s attractive foliage not its flowers that are really nothing special. Our plants came visiting through the fence from next door many years ago so I potted them up and now I have many many pots full. It’s easy to propagate by division and likes a moist shaded spot. Japanese Sacred Bamboo, Dwalf Nandina (Nandina domestica )nanten is the Japanese name, heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo, is a species of flowering plant, not an actual bamboo, native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan. The larger growing species, like my mum grew at Dubbo, have flowers and red berries but the more compact types like ‘Nana,’ ‘Gulf Stream,’ and ‘Firepower’ don’t have flowers or fruit. These have been growing for well over 25 years and I’ve not seen a single flower. Regular pruning will keep a nice hedge shape and they need almost no other care. These survive quite happily on Belmont rain.
