Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) - quartetto in La minore - Allegro affettuoso,
Stefano Parrino, flauto; Francesco Parrino, violino; Luca Ranieri, viola; Maria Cecilia Berioli, violoncello
Shorter piece today, a dense little flute quartet. I began with writing just the melody, then added the accompanimental parts after. I usually do them in the other order, or simultaneously, so this was done as a change of pace for myself.
My goal was to make sure the accompaniment parts were just as interesting as the melody, for both performers and listeners. I added several rhythmic ideas to it so that it wouldn't come off as melody + chords. The result is a fun little piece full of dance-like rhythms, with several sudden harmonic moves that give it an air of subtle mystery.
As always, these pieces are welcome for anyone and everyone to play! All I ask is that you share it with me, because I'd love to hear it done by live players!
So I found out from Brea yesterday that one of my high school band student teachers thinks I'm super chill and non-reactive?? I was so close to literally screaming because she also bascially admitted to her that she was really hard on me and my flute quartet in high school and I thought that was just the kind of person she was and not like, doing it on purpose???
