Glow

Wade holds his hands out, warming them on the glowing embers. It’s cool out, being late Flufftober, and the crackling heat of the fire is nice on his skin. He pats down his satchels and finds a bag of marshmallows. He sticks one on on the end of his bowie knife and sets to toasting.

“Daddy, daddy, daddy!” A little girl comes stomping toward them. As Peter looks up, he can’t help but notice the hoodie she's swimming in, big enough for a grown man and decorated with red and blue webbing with large, white lenses on the chest.  “What’s up, pumpkin patch?” the tall man asks, bending forward to meet her eyes. “That boy just tried to hit me!” “Hmm.” The man looks over to where she’s pointing, at the amoeba of kids that move as one entity over the playground equipment. Then he turns back to her. “And what do we do when someone tries to hit us?”

Itch

“What about this one?” Eddie pulls yet another sweater from the back of his closet. This one is greenish-brown and baggy.

TOO ITCHY, Venom responds before Eddie can get it over his head.

“Ugh.” He pulls it off and sends it to join its rejected siblings in the corner as he turns, motioning out the window. “I don’t know what you want me to do, man. It’s fuckin’ cold out!” People on the street below are bundled up, their breath steaming in the sunshine.

WE CANNOT STAND THE ITCHY FIBERS. LEAVE THEM ON THE SHEEP.

“Fine.” Eddie stomps out of the apartment, wearing just his black t-shirt and jeans. Halfway down the street, he’s rubbing his bare arms for warmth.

YOU ARE COLD.

Eddie stops and looks up at the heavens for guidance. “No shit, sherlock.”

Venom’s black substance materializes on the back of his neck, then his forearms, knitting together like living candle wax. It forms a cozy, if goopy, black sweater with a deep front pocket and low hood.

HOW IS THIS?

Eddie burrows his hands in the pocket and nestles down into Venom. “Perfect,” he smiles.

Snap

"Don’t look at me, I just know stuff.”

“OH!” Logan snaps his fingers and points at the TV. “He said it! Ice T said the line.”

Ugh. Wade rolls his eyes. He is SUCH an old person.  

Lit

“Cut it out!” Peter thwips out a web to catch the acorn that Johnny has just tossed at him. 

“What? You started it. You can’t call my cooking bad and get away with it.”

“You burnt soup. How do you burn soup?”

“It wasn’t soup. It was chili, Brainiac, and burning food’s a lot easier when you own more kitchen equipment than a hot plate.” A chestnut, heavy and round, hurtles toward Peter’s head, strumming his spidey sense. He ducks out of the way just in time. 

“Hey! That could have hurt!” Peter feels around the grass next to him for the nearest ammo, and lobs a pinecone at Johnny. 

The cone erupts in flame as Johnny catches it. In seconds it’s white ash, which he blows off the palm of his hand.

“Pfft. Show-off,” Peter rolls his eyes but his cheeks burn with a smile.

Bounce

“Peter Peter Peter!” 

Ellie comes busting through the door, and with her a tidal wave of the delicious smells that have been poking around the edges of his dreams all morning. 

“Ellie!” Peter blinks. And then, “Oof!”

I got antsy, so here's a prologue. <3

“Always? Really?” Wade thinks about that. Well, he thinks out loud, because that’s the way it works sometimes.  “As long as I can remember, anyway. I’m not exactly sure how long that is. There’s a lotta swiss cheese in this ole’ noggin. But like - definitely before I saw your face. Or you saw mine. Possibly before we actually met - but that coulda just been parasocial.” “Hm.” Peter’s grunt is utterly non-committal, which makes Wade’s stomach do a sad little belly flop. He doesn’t argue though because Peter’s head is still resting against his shoulder, and another episode of Love Island is about to come on, and he’s really hoping not to spoil the vibe.  “...So what does that mean? Like, for…this? For us?”
