That time i made a clownsuit by handsweing and went and hooped
I've recently gotten REALLY into veil poi dancing BUT I can only use 1 poi at a time because I inherently lack the coordination to do 2 things at once with both hands. It's something I've tried practicing with but my brain can't wrap around itself to do it cohesively so now I'm looking to dragon poi instead so I don't feel weak and bad for only being able to use one at a time.

So at some point within the past few weeks--you know, when I was working two jobs (one of which was THE single most physically and mentally demanding job I've ever had) and taking a 4-and-a-half-hour class two days a week, I thought it would be a great idea to take up a hobby that involved getting up off the couch and moving around!
I started doing flow.
I'd been watching flow vids for a while and thinking "dang, that looks cool" but it was one of Cupcake Alchemist's dragon staff videos that finally pushed me over the edge from "dang that looks cool" to "fuck it, I'ma try it."
Right now I'm still kind of in the "throw props at the wall and see what sticks" stage but so far I'm really digging leviwand and staff (mostly spin, just starting to dip my toes into contact, more on that in a minute), with rope dart kind of third wheeling them. I tried poi, wanted to like them, couldn't really get into them. Everything I wanted to like about poi, I ended up getting from rope dart.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided I liked staff enough (and was interested enough in trying contact) to upgrade from the length of PVC I'd been spinning to a Flowtoys LED contact staff (and with two incomes, well, I could definitely afford one of their relatively inexpensive options) and it finally came in today after spending like a week chilling at some post office in Oakland and ohhh my god. It's amazing. It's not much heavier than my shitty DIY PVC staff but it handles SO much better. I can already do neck wraps with it! I might add some flowers to it. I will definitely someday take advantage of the fact that it can be upgraded with a second pair of Capsule 2.0 lights. But holy shit, the Capsule 2.0 lights are so fucking cool. They react to motion! They have about a bajillion colors and modes built in! They can be linked together so they both do the same color/mode without you having to manually set it on both of them! The interface, having only a single button to push, is a little uhhhhh... clunky to navigate, and figuring out how to detach them from the staff so I could charge them took some trial and error and a youtube video tutorial. But still, holy shit. I cannot wait to take this thing out to a park after dark and sling it around.
Props I have not yet tried but really want to: dragon staff, saber, maybe flow stars? also on the one hand I'm kinda meh about hoop but also interested enough that I'll probably snag a cheap hula hoop next time I see one at Five Below or whatever just to give it a whirl?
I will absolutely not be doing fire. I am way too clumsy and I have zero business slinging shit that is on fire around.
