"Is this you questioning whether vampires are actually capable of that, or are you asking whether a spell could make it possible?" Medina questioned, looking over at the younger vampire. Today was a good day, good enough for the two of them to spend it lounging by the pool in the garden.

"I don't think vampires are naturally capable of shapeshifting. I'm fairly certain that's just lore made up by the likes of the Mikaelsons. You would be surprised by how many of these curious abilities and beliefs seem to stem from them. I'm convinced they did half of it simply to impress people and frighten the other half. Vampires sleeping in coffins? I'm positive that stems from Klaus and his little daggering sprees. Vampires and werewolves being mortal enemies? Once again, the Mikaelsons. The entire sun and moon curse? Another elaborate fairy tale they made up." She shrugged, seemingly amused by the thought. "Which is also why I sometimes question whether a non-Original vampire daggering an Original would truly result in instant death. No one has ever done it, so how exactly do we know it would end in tragedy? For all we know, they made that up too. Perhaps one of them simply didn't want to risk being daggered by an irritated vampire with very little left to lose." Medina shifted slightly in her seat before continuing.

"Though, I have heard stories of certain vampires being capable of controlling animals. I've never witnessed it myself, only heard about it. The same goes for vampires supposedly being able to manipulate mist or even the weather. Again, things I've never personally seen. I know how to manipulate the weather through magic, of course, but that's entirely different. There are certainly quite a few curious vampire myths worth investigating." Her expression turned skeptical. "That being said, I still refuse to believe the Originals are capable of flight. I'm almost positive someone made that up simply to terrify the rest of us. They are already nearly impossible to kill; did we really need to give them wings as well?" She paused, considering Flori's original question again.

"But frankly, I don't particularly want to turn into a bat. Flying sounds thrilling enough, but if becoming a tiny winged rodent is the requirement, I will gladly decline." Medina gave her a small, knowing smile. "Besides, if you don't wish to participate in a particular social situation, simply don't attend. It works wonderfully for me."

@floripire mused: "if you're bitten by a weremole, you become one yourself."

That didn't exactly sound like the kind of thing that Ally wanted to experience, least of all firsthand. More than that, she was now realizing that there were a lot of different creatures out there that she had never actually heard of. Was that something that actually made sense to her? A mole?! One that shifted and probably had some sort of powers of some sort?

" this is okay! i can just wear my fancy new shoes if i need to be an authority figure, right? but that's rare with you, @floripire, so this is absolutely grand! "

On the left-hand page when the book lays flat, there's a series of drawings of a man. The same man, though in three different scenes. In the first image, the primary image that takes up the centerpiece of the work, he's standing in a pulpit. a cross on a silver chain hangs from his neck. he has a Bible open in his hands and while he's mid-sermon in the sketch, his eyes reflect warmth and care.

in the top left corner of the page, he's crouched, gripping a wooden stake, shielded in darkness. the warm and loving expression has been replaced with cold eyes and a snarling lip.

and on the bottom right of the page, running off into the seam, he stands the way she'd seen him in the shop early that afternoon. friendly. cordial. silver chain still lingering around his neck, but with the cross notably absent. a cowboy hat sitting perched on his head. expression curious. warm, again.

on the right hand page, a journal entry from mid-july.

i met the most interesting man at the cupboard yesterday. wyatt cassidy. he came in to the shop like they always do, expecting us to be phonies. we don't get many cowboys, though. even the hunters who come in aren't usually done up like that.

as soon as i saw him i had a vision. sketched it out here, just like i always do. he used to be a preacher, but... something happened. i don't know what. he didn't say. anyways, he's a hunter now.

you'd think i'd be wary of that. preachers. hunters. don't typically care much for either of them.

but i dunno. i was intrigued, i guess. he was charming and friendly and easy to talk to, and i just don't think he's... like the others.

he told me he was here for a ghost-hunting job and i sort of invited myself along for that. no big deal. helped him purge a poltergeist.

anyways, he asked me to join him for drinks at the whiskey rose. i've never been, but i recommended he check it out if he got homesick. he looked like the kind of guy who would enjoy it there.

we just talked and talked for hours, and then i got him to ask me to dance with him, and... wow. no one's ever asked me to dance with them before. and he was such a pro at it. i'm sure this guy's broken hearts all over the damn country, but i couldn't help but have just the most fun i think i've ever had. being around him, talking to him, dancing... it all just felt so easy & free. i've never connected with someone like that before. not even hayden.

then i convinced him to ride the mechanical bull and he was a pro at that too. because of course he was.

anyways. i don't know if i'll ever even see him again 'cuz he was just here for a job, and now the job is done.

"Ah you crave the safe well behaved option." Katherine mused with a smirk. Tucker was sweet but not her type. Yes, he is a puppy boy in his own right but he did not have that special kind of broken behind the eyes that Katherine is drawn to. Not like Dean and John Logan. Moreso Dean.

"On the bright side it means no one's boy toy interests clash and we can all continue being the queens and having the boys on their knees for us."

Tatia's lips pursed into a line as she paused for a moment. ❝That it is,❞ she answered through gritted teeth. ❝However, time to plan things properly is a luxury. One we must know how to live without when need arises.❞

And in Tatia's case, the need often came with very short notice. Her curse, though largely contained, had a tendency to flare up when suppressed for too long. The moment of control slipping didn't always come with signs and warnings.

But when it did? Every second mattered.

❝You needn't worry about me — my actions may appear rushed to you, but it's an old dance for me,❞ she gave the last words of reassurance to the young vampire before heading out the door. ❝You could say that I have the steps memorised by now.❞

Though the truth, of course, was more complicated than what she'd let on.

Tatia suffered many deaths in her thousand years of immortal life; many of them long since faded into the obscurity of her mind. But there are some that she never quite learned to shake.

The first one, when Elijah drained her of blood.

And the second: the first death suffered as an immortal.
