You’ve probably guessed from the uptick in cat pictures I’ve posted, I got a cat at the end of March. I’d been without a cat for five years and indeed one of the main reasons for moving to #brightmeadowhome was so I could get a cat again. So I was very excited and was day-dreaming about adopting this cute black kitten who I could train to sit on my shoulder and who’d play and do cute things for me to video and share on tumblr... 

But I’ve ended up with a Ragdoll who looks at me like I’m crazy when I wave a ribbon toy around, is a grown 3 years old, and who weighs in at a solid 15lb. Not exactly shoulder sitting material. Very cute and friendly though. 

And an utter arsehole that wakes me up at 6am everyday, without fail. Even on a weekend. I guess it’s not his fault, he’s a cat and doesn’t understand the concept of a weekend, but I miss sleep. 

Talking of sleep - he takes up the ENTIRE middle of the bed. When you try to move him he just makes this bemused meerp? noise, making you feel like the worst person in creation for disturbing him, so you end up surrendering 90% of the mattress to this creature not more than two feet long nose to tail.

And how does he wake me up every morning at 6am? My meowing in my ear. Loudly. Then sitting on my face and suffocating me with all that floofy hair. 

Don’t get me started with the hair. Oh my god, the hair. So much hair (I knew this would be a thing with a long-haired cat, but it’s defeated even my fancy pet-hair-hoover). I naively thought I could at least keep it out of clean clothes and things... Oh, you poor innocent Cas. You forgot that cats like to sit in the places you least want them too, didn’t you? Like the clean linen drawer. I swear I looked away for 2 seconds to grab the next thing to put in the drawer and BAM! Bonus cat. 

Then there’s the litter box... He’s recently developed a habit where he will only use the litter box when I am in the room with him. Most cats like privacy. Not Floofius. Tonight he even started using the kitchen box (his preferred) but when I left the room, he stopped, followed me to the dining room, and used the box there. I get that Ragdolls’ as a breed are known to follow their owners around, but to need an audience to use the toilet?! Gah

He’s also fallen off various bits of furniture multiple times which, I will admit, makes me giggle every time. Grace, thy name is not Floofius. But he does like to keep trying and his favourite jump is the three feet from my dressing table to my bed - he particularly likes to try at 3am. Let me tell you, 15lbs of cat landing firmly on your back is a sure-fire way to 1) wake up quickly and 2) have a heart attack.
