she was almost happy that puzzle was with lena; her poor dog should not have to get jealous over her being excited to see another dog. then, puzzle also tended to get excited whenever she saw younger dogs, and might just be understanding. ‘ ‘ your dog is gorgeous, if i may, ’ ’ she said as she halted; she was supposed to grab coffee with fred later, but he would understand it if she was running late. ‘ ‘ what’s their name? ’ ’

bracing his forearms against the counter, he raised an eyebrow at the stranger. the rush of the day’s early hours had long subsided and it was not lunchtime yet, thus leaving the café empty. it was boring, though he knew how this thing worked --- the moment he said it out loud, someone would come and give him some dreadfully dull task to do.
‘‘ what can i get you? ’’ he asked, faintly hopefully, as the other approached the counter. ‘‘ i’m about to look after my éclairs, but the clafoutis isn’t bad either if you don’t want to wait--- and wifi’s free all day, by the way. ’’ it’s not like freya wants to earn money with this gig.

she is a realist that leans towards optimism. having been around as long as she has, eleanor has seen a lot — good and bad. she leans towards a positive worldview because she believes in humanity’s inherent ability to learn, to do better. it is something she has to believe in as otherwise, she would struggle to deal with the world as it is.

eleanor is as brave as she is compassionate, as she is willed to step in and help others, even at her own expense. after all — she does get back up after something does not work out. thus, eleanor is very reliant on her immortality; she may not be someone who chases trouble, but trouble seems to know where she rests her head.
