Life Hack: LED tilt lamp!
Introducing the Draailampje! …that’s Dutch for ‘flip light’ according to Make Magazine’s David Bakker who invented this smart light up, flip up LED device.
I’ve seen many a life hack in my time, from Ipod speakers made from toilet roll tubes, to paper clips that divide USB cables.
But how about an easy to build, energy saving LED lamp that will see you through the dark this winter?
1 First things first, you will need:
A small jar
10mm LED
Tilt/Angle switch
Battery & battery holder
Glue/Tape
Soldering iron & Solder
Wire cutters
Pliers
2 Check LED
Identify the positive and the negative leads on the LED.
3 Fold your legs!
Using your pliers, fold the legs of the battery holder flat towards the outside.
4 Soldering on
Now that the positive and negative leads have been identified in the step earlier, solder the negative lead from the LED to the negative lead from the battery holder.
5 Keep positive
Solder one leg of the tilt switch to the positive lead of the battery holder and the other leg to the positive lead of the LED.
6 Topsy turvy
Place the battery in its holder and test the On/Off effect of the LED and tilt switch by tilting everything upside down.
7 ‘Jarhead’
Attach the battery holder to the underside of the jar lid with glue or tape, then solder the leads to mount the tilt switch.
8 Draailampje!
Use your lamp! Its flippin’ fantastic!
