Ended up making an Au where Badgerfang managed to survive his wounds, got exiled by Brokenstar, lived with the Exiled Elders and eventually becomes the leader of Shadowclan after Tigerstar gets gutted.

When Badgerpaw survived his wounds, Brokenstar decided to exile the poor kit as he believed he was useless sitting in the Medicine den. His parents, Fernshade and Wolfstep, begged him not to; but even his uncle Blackfoot backed the decision, and the kit was escorted out by his own uncle, who felt it was his fault.

And then Badgerpaw found the Exiled Elders.

With them, he was comfortable and fed, Nightpelt insisting that a kit needed food before the rest of them. For the time that Badgerpaw was with them, he realized everything he saw in Brokenstar was lies.

When Brokenstar and his followers were chased out, Badgerpaw was free to go back to Shadowclan with the Elders, where his family awaited his return. Wishing to continue his training, Flintfang did his best to protect his Nephew, not wanting to lose him again.

And despite the tragedy and fear in Shadowclan, Badgerpaw found he enjoyed his clanmate Whitepaw’s presence.

When the Carrionplace disease came, Badgerfang got lucky. Whitethroat was not so, leaving with Littlecloud to go find help, as the sickness was tearing apart Shadowclan from the inside.

Had Badgerfang not went looking for Whitethroat when things had gotten much worse, his best friend would have died on the Thunderpath, fleeing in fear of Tigerclaw and the former’s old clanmate that had helped him.

Badgerfang was just glad Whitethroat was safe.

And then Tigerstar became their leader. He’d screamed and howled, knowing damn well that Tigerstar was like Brokenstar, twisted in the heart. Even his uncle Flintfang agreed, as the two had demanded Tigerstar leave Shadowclan alone. They'd heard the rumors about why he left Thunderclan after all...

And then his uncle was killed like a dog by his other uncle, Blackfoot. He and the others who defied Tigerstar and his new era of Shadowclan ran, taking shelter somewhere not too far from the clans. They couldn't bear to leave them to a horrible fate under Tigerstar's grasp, could they?

Badgerfang made it hurt when he killed Blackfoot. He made it hurt for killing his uncle Flintfang, for letting him be exiled and left to die when he was injured from Brokenstar's battles, for trying to insist that he was now Shadowclan's leader, after showing time and time again he was just as traitorous as Tigerstar and Brokenstar were.

After so much damage, so much bloodshed, Shadowclan was yet again left leaderless. Most were uneasy about leading, fearing the path that Brokenstar and Tigerstar paved, and the path left crumbled by Nightstar's untimely end of reign.

So they looked to Badgerfang.

He didn't understand, even though he had an apprentice in Cedarpaw, he didn't feel ready. Even with Littlecloud and Whitethroat by his side as Medicine Cat and Mate, he was afraid to fail his clan.

His uncle Flintfang reassured him, when they finally met again. After the battle with Bloodclan, he had gone to the Moonstone, where those he loved and those he never knew waited to give him lives. Most were kits who suffered a horrible fate under Brokenstar, gone too soon from this world. But they knew that Badgerfang would lead Shadowclan down a better path.

Badgerfang and his cool uncle, surely nothing can go wrong, right?
