(1/2) The original design — marked up by our miller — of yesterday’s glued up frame, which was created as such more for aesthetic purposes than structural ones. We always cull for the color and growth ring patterns/orientation that are best suited for a particular finish or look we’re trying to achieve. Sometimes we want a prominent cathedral pattern on the face of the frame (flat sawn), sometimes we want fairly straight, evenly-spaced growth ring patterns (rift sawn), sometimes we want a mix of orientations (like quarter sawn wood on the inner and outer sections of a profile and flat sawn wood in the middle), and we almost always want similar patterning and color on all four rails of the frame. #framedesign #woodworking #glueup #specialmilling #customframing #barkframeworks #woodfigure #quartersawn #flatsawn #riftsawn #craftsmanship #madeinNYC #woodworker
