The date hardly crossed his mind, simply getting up and going to work as usual. His shift was one of the more annoying ones he’s had in a while, but he’s Sora – he handles it with a grin on his face, like he handles everything. He handles it, and he makes it through without one of his slowly-increasing crashouts.

But when he gets home, he finds Strelizia standing outside, a cheeky grin on her face.

“Hey!”

“Hey? Strel, what’s this about? I just wanna go to bed…”

“Can we go on a walk first?”

He blinks, looking at her in confusion.

“Uh-... Why?”

“It’s been too long since we went anywhere together!”

“...Fine. But nothing more than a couple minutes, okay? I’m exhausted..”

He can’t say no to her. The way she brightens and grabs his hand to pull him along is telling enough.

They walk and walk – well, more like almost running. Strelitzia is clearly taking him somewhere, but when he asks she only says it’s a secret– why is she putting a party hat on his head? He can’t even see the way it’s decorated.

“Are we going to a party-?”

“Yup! But who it’s for is a surprise!”

He doesn’t know why it’s a secret, but he supposes he can take that answer.

They get to what must be the party place soon enough – it’s a park, a rather pretty one in fact. Decorated for somebody’s 16th birthday.

“Where’s all the-”

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY SORA!!”

The simultaneous shouts startle him, only the fact that Strelitzia is still holding his hand keeps him from summoning his Keyblade.

But he realizes, as he looks over at them all, as they chatter and approach – already telling stories – that it’s all the friends he’s managed to make here in Shibuya. Nora, from that coffee shop; Fraser, Julia, and Osain from Strel’s job; Amir, Tobias, even Rhonda from his own – he’d seen Rhonda earlier, she’d claimed to be sick and had to leave early; Maryam and Lowri and Nathan, too.

They’re his friends too.

Even if he can’t have Riku and the others, even if he knows he’ll never be able to go back there….

These are his friends now.

“WOah, hey, kid! Why’re you crying?”

“M’not a kid..”

He wipes his eyes, but smiles brightly.

“I’m crying cause I’m happy!”

And it isn’t a lie.

He is crying from happiness, though there’s sadness mixed in.

He misses Riku. He misses Kairi, and he certainly misses Vena and Roxas. But he’s happy to be who he is, and be able to make friends so easily.
