The Great Pestilence. Ink on paper.
Unit filler for the flagellants
WIP WEDNESDAY
Nuffle's Faithful take the Feild
Here's the projects I currently have in progress. The ones on square bases are almost done but still require a little extra work.
Meet the Totengrad naFC, aka the Zealots of Nuffle. They can be run as either Free Company Militia or Flagellants. They're supposed to be the local Blood Bowl Fan Club. They're a bunch of Rabid, Psychotic, Unhinged, Blood Bowl Fanatics. I also plan to make a dedicated Old World Alliance Blood Bowl team to pair with them. They're a Blood Bowl Fan Club for all of Totengrad. So each member wears gear branded in their favorite teams colors, making them a hodgepodge of several different liveries, not unlike any unit of Bretonion Knights.
Here we have a set of brothers Representing the Bad Bay Hackers, from the Blood Bowl novels. My personal tribute to those books. I highly recommend.
They're the Club President and Vice President.
Here's some throwers, an essential element of the unit as they provide the Free Company Militia's Ranged Attack by throwing their "Nuffle's BALLS."
The left one is repping the Reikland Reivers color scheme and the one one the left is wearing Middenland Marauders colors.
Here we have the token "Rich Girl" slumming it with the commoners. "Nagging Nadine" is actually the Club's Secretary and Treasurer on account of her posh education Making her the most qualified to do the paperwork and balance the budget for the club.
She's the Sports Anime Token Tomboy of the team and she's a diehard Bogenhafen Barons fanatic and a massive Griff Oberwald Fangirl.
Here we have the resident Totengrad Tyrants fans.
On the left we have a Halfling Hopeful. She's an Estalian Halfling, originally from an Estalian Colony in the Border Princes.
On the right we have the Unit Champion. The Militia Captain/Doom Preacher; the Preist of Nuffle, the Referee.
The Reff is an Old retired TyrantsGuard State Trooper, and was also a former Drill Sargent for the Totengrad Tyrants. He has since taken his holy orders and become a Preist of Nuffle. He now coaches and drills the Totengrad naFC in games of Gutterbowl in his off time, as well as rallying them as Militia in defense of the City. He's not the only Preist of Nuffle in Totengrad, there's also a very good Dwarf Reff in town to reff the games while he's Coaching.
Here we have a bunch of linemen that I've primed but haven't gotten around to yet.
Here we have an old D&D Barbarian that I've had for years. My aunt gave it to me as a kid. My dad found it while going through our old stuff in storage a couple months ago and gave it back to me.
His name is Nordland Ned, and he's gonna be the Bodyguard for my Paymaster Karla Von Kettenkrad.
All that's left for him is to flock his base with grass.
Last we have the Command for Bugman's Rangers along with 3 models of Joseph Bugman himself.
They're very much in progress and I'll probably get back on them after I complete the final touches on my Blood Bowl Militia that are already on square bases.
This is a drawing from an unknown artist around the year 1583 which represents a Flagellant master leading his band of followers. Flagellants practice the mortification of the flesh by usually whipping themselves because of their sinful nature. Though this practice can be dated back to the 11th century, it was more wide-spread and became a movement in the 14th century “peaking” around the time of the Black Death bubonic plague (1346-1353)
The hood worn is a “capirote”, a Catholic conical hat worn by the penitents so that attention is not drawn towards themselves as they repent, but instead to God. Sometimes Flagellants will have a basic mask that doesn’t necessarily have a conical shape.
I found this art drawing interesting since Peste Noire used this as a cover of La Sanie des siècles – Panégyrique de la dégénérescence (album)

Okay, first rank of Flagellants done. Two of them were already built, the second from the left with the scold's bridal-type device on his head, and the guy on the far right end with the two handed flail. They were originally going to be servants/acolytes for a scratch built Death Guard Chaos Priest thingy that didn't work out, so they got shunted to thee side then rebased when Old World was announced.
With the addition of a standard bearer being added to the Flagellants, I decided to get creative so I've got the guy in the pillory with the flag on his back acting as the standard bearer, so he's kitted out. The Doom Prophet is the guy next to him with capirote/Cultist Head from Tabletop Art. The head is a bit thin compared to the actual Flagellant heads, but I don't see that as a problem, personally. When the whole band is painted, I think it shouldn't be noticeable.
Since these are Flagellants, but they are from Altdorf, their overall colour scheme will be browns to varying degrees, I will still add some blue and red, just to keep them tied in to the general army scheme.
ETA: I keep misspelling it. It's capirote not capiote. Capirote.
