Coming to the actual ques; there's honestly sooo many, I'm sure I'll miss some, but here goes

First up, obvio, Fitoor and Lootera (can u tell I have a penchant for tragedy). I also love star-crossed stories so there's Mirzya and Laila Majnu. Mard ko dard nahi hota is pretty much the only action movie I really adore and it's from the very under-utilised genre of action-comedy. I really like Raabta, although it's not my absolute fav. Qala is obviously incredible (I love Tripti Dimri, she's an incredible actor). Monsoon wedding is pretty awesome too. I loooved Highway (Randeep is my shayla).

Some other films that I loved but are not in like the top tier are Queen (it's genuinely so funny), ZNMD and Dil dhadakne do. Wait, I just realised a lot of the stuff I like are flops. Huh, I don't know what to make of that. More material for my "That's so niche" I suppose.

But, obviously, I do have a never-ending watchlist, so there r tonnes of movies I haven't watched yet. Either way, tysm for this, it was so much fun 😍

Edit- Manorama 6 ft under is not my fav but it’s a pretty good mystery if anyone’s interested.

✨That's so niche ✨

A series where I discuss pieces of media that I love and happen to be slightly less famous than Taylor Swift, and hence, liking them makes me feel, well, special. For today I’ve picked,

This image is from Pinterest, as always, credits to the owner. Now I know that Fitoor is very well loved in spaces like Pinterest and angsty edits, but the fact remains, that it did flop. So let’s get into it. Disclaimer; this will have spoilers.

So, Fitoor is a 2016 film, directed by Abhishek Kapoor; starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu (man I love Tabu). It is also based on Great Expectations, which was basically my favourite book during my Charles Dickens phase (I’m not proud of it).

The 1st thing I wanna discuss is how absolutely, drop dead gorgeous this movie is. Every single frame is literally a painting, and I know that sounds contrived, but trust me on this. Even in agonising grief it is so so beautiful. The portrayal of Kashmir, the worn out Haveli where Hazrat lives, even Noor’s art itself, is simply stunning. The red in every frame, be it in the maple leaves or Firdaus’s and Hazrat's hair. Even Delhi is shot through such a romantic lens, it’s all very very easy on the eyes. It’s also the reason why the budget ballooned as much as it did, probably, cuz everything is just too beautiful and so perfectly opulent and gothic in some areas.

Fitoor has the most incredible album. Honestly, that’s a bit of a given when Amit Trivedi is involved but it has some srsly stunning music, every single track is incredible. Although, I am most biased towards Pashmina. Like if u actually listen to the lyrics, aaaaah it’s just so good.

Obviously, the costumes are incredibly beautiful. I want to own every single piece of clothing Katrina wears; the blue dress, the red lace number (literally every girl wants that), the slinky back gown, the long green skirt, the pant suit, the final white anarkali, the black outfit she wears to Noor's exhibition, I want all of it so bad. Coming to Tabu, I'm obsessed with the sweeping cloak she wears in London, it's sooo badass. Also, they make sense. Firdaus is some1 who is consistently taught by Hazrat to use her beauty to manipulate men, and she's obviously from a noble family, so it makes sense that she has access and knows how to style herself. Also, I love that Katrina is called Firdaus, cuz she is literally unattainable paradise in his eyes.

Coming to the casting and performances; 1st the child actors actually look like they might grow up to look like Aditya and Katrina. Also, young Katrina is played by Tunisha Sharma, who is no more, rest in peace, her performance was incredible. Aditya is perfectly suited for Noor, he is intense and u can see the madness in him, how taken he is by Firdaus, how smitten. He's also kept shirtless for a lot of the film, and with that collarbone, I'm sat. This is def. Katrina's best performance till date. Smth about this very haughty, beautiful and slightly vain, princess-like character really suits her (I'm not saying she's haughty, just that it suits her), and she handles the grief parts really well. That's why I was kinda surprised when Vicky Kaushal said it was the one movie of his wife that he didn't like. Also, she's such a baddie in red hair. Tabu and Aditi Rao Hydari are both my favorites in general, and they are incredible here too. Also, this movie also has Rahul Bhat, who is kinda cute. Akshay Oberoi is also pretty awesome. Literally everyone in this movie is so beautiful, from Noor's sister to literally the leads. Oh yeah, there's Ajay Devgn too. Aaand there's a really cute doggo.

The dialogues of this movie are so awesome. Like they need to be poetic, but this is a contemporary film so they can't be cringe, or outdated, the balance is struck. Some of my favorites are, " Sabh pyaar ban ke beh gaya. Firdaus. Bas ek lavs ne hi hisaab kar diya mera." Look at Aditya's face when this is said, he's so enamoured, even when she says she's engaged, he keeps gazing at her like that, undeterred. Another is,"Mashallah Noor, kya dil toota hai tumhara." and my all time fave, "Dum toot jaata hai, par piccha nahi chootta. Pyaar bi kaisa ajeeb jaaanwar hai." And ofc, "Khud se azaadi toh sirf maut de sakti hai." Like who wrote these? Why are they so sad and romantic.

It also has a very, very beautiful portrayal of intimacy. There's smth so visceral and personal about Noor showing Firdaus all the paintings he has made of her, as she looks on awed. They're all so beautiful, and personal somehow, and it ends with Noor placing his head against Firdaus's, as if in surrender or prayer. The scene that follows is so beautifully shot, and the little chandelier on top is basically the same as the tiara Noor makes for Firdaus when they're young.

Coming to my fav scenes, I love when baby Noor slams snow into baby Firdaus's head and hangs the straw horse from her window when she loses her horse. I love when they meet after all these years, how Noor refuses to look away from her. I love that Pashmina video, shoutout the the person who made all those paintings. I love the scene in Hazrat's flashback, when they're sitting in the bus and she hands Mufti her jewels, look how perfectly the light falls on his face so u can see it in his eyes as he shows his true colors, it's so well done. I absolutely adore Tabu's last scene where she starts seeing all of the men of her life in Noor and she wanders the hotel, disoriented; it's performed so incredibly. I also absolutely adore the London show.
