Five fics that I’m proud of:

american car ride

(4k words, bonus chapter extras, vacation, outdoor smut, musings on my favorite love story)

this one. this ended up being my love letter to book canon firstprince. it was written as a one shot for my dear friend rey (@/dearalexhenry on twt) and it turned into the best thing i've ever written. it takes place during the bonus chapter of rwrb, in which alex takes henry on a little vacation when he's feeling burnt out. it's my own remix of cmq's prose style and firstprince dialogue that is just so them. i regularly re-read the comments on this one if i'm having a tough day. this is the fic i send to people if they ask me which fic of mine they should start with. <3

2. godspeed and glory

(71.7k words (complete) and 64.9k words (WIP, sequel), cowboy!firstprince, action-packed multi-chap)

alex breaks into henry's ranch and points a gun at his head. the rest is history.

godspeed is the first piece of fiction i ever wrote. it came straight from the heart, no studying the prose or grammar, no intense beta work, just vibes. it just flowed out of me. cowboy firstprince made me realize how much i adore romance writing. i owe it so so so very much.

glory is godspeed's sweeping sequel. it's a WIP, but we're inching toward the juicy, wild end. cowboy henry is central to this one. a + h go undercover as pretend enemies and infiltrate the gang that ran alex out of town in godspeed. the drama! i am having the best time writing this, and i can't believe it'll be over before i know it. i am giving this story my all.

3. buy some time for what we shouldn't do

(16.2k words, high school (but not underage) AU, academic rivals, tattooed!henry, humor)

punk!henry joins alex's high school late in the year, and alex recognizes him as the guy he made out with at a dive bar the weekend before.

y'all i had so much fucking fun writing this one. i was so thrilled when folks in the comments said they could tell that i had a blast. i really, truly did. this fic is inspired by my love of one direction fics (the thing that got me into fandom/fic culture many moons ago).

i tried to inject this fic with lots of humor and pop culture/fandom/1d references. it ended up being my first real go at an alex POV, and it also became a study on burnout and expectation. love love love this fic.

P.S. alex rides henry and h brings up an argument they had in class during the act. lmfao.

P.P.S this was written for the keyboard karaoke fic exchange on the brownstone server and i went super overboard.

(12.5k words, childhood friends to lovers, inspired by This Song by Conan Gray, yearning, henry crushing on alex)

henry crushes on alex so bad. summertime yearning fic.

my first-ever oneshot! my baby. i feel maternal toward this fic. totally based on the music video for This Song by Conan Gray, which I highly recommend whether you read this fic or not. if you do read, it's a must-watch.

i proved with this fic that i can write about something other than cowboys.

exactly what you think it is. this is the vegas scene from heated rivalry but rewritten to make it firstprince. complete filth. utter joy.

Rules: list five fics you have written that you are currently very proud of

a life so changed (firstprince, titanic au, 15 ch, 82k) I really am proud of this one. It took me almost a year to write. It was research heavy, I was really worried about getting Alex and Henry's voices right, and the added layer of the time period and how that shifts their actions and values, etc. so! really love this one

prima facie (firstprince, explicit, 18k) I am reallyyyy not known for my au / getting together fics haha so everytime I write one I'm !!!! about it ... but ESPECIALLY this one. It was for the AWY exchange and I really did put so much heart and love into it. really, really fun fic to write during a really hard period of my life

why can't I leave it unsaid? (firstprince, general, 4k) this was deeply personal and I'm unafraid to admit maybe I projected on Alex a lil too much. Still, the feedback was good, and skimming it just now tugged at my heart. love this fic. want to write something else like it soon

glazed and confused (jerejean, teen, 8k) I feel like this is my first chunky non-firstprince fic and it was reallyyyy fun to open up jerejean books and puzzle through how to write them, to find their essence again and create a fic. plus, i just really love the premise of this one. kind of want to write a sequel

oh, will wonders ever cease? (lamen, general, 2.4k) I know this one is short, but like I said above re jerejean, it was another exercise in finding the essence of lamen and writing a fic as close to character as I could. Plus, there just isn't a whole lot of fluffy comfort in the tag and I wanted to change that at least a little haha

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

For Red White & Royal Blue, I wish the LA smut scene had gone differently in the book (because I have never seen the movie). I know it's a lot of people's favorite, but there's something about how that interplay shakes out that I'm not so sure about. Like word choice tweaking, really.

For the Game Changers books... I have a list. And most of that list I am endeavoring to remedy for myself through writing copious amount of AU fanfiction. Because that is what I am good at!

🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

honestly? I would just love to see the art. Because whatever the artist picks, whatever scene or moment, would hopefully be meaningful or inspirational to them, and that's would I would love to see.

Literally my brain would be a cascade of oh my gosh someone thought my writing was inspirational! oh my gof there's ART!!! all the way to oh, they picked that scene? they loved that scene, I loved that scene! or I didn't think anyone would find that moment special, oh someone did! Oh that's so exciting look at it, I want it on my wall!

my pride and joy. i will never shut up about how much i love writing this one. i love hockey so much and i love firstprince so much, so to merge those two passions together has been so so so fun. it’s alao longest thing i’ve ever written, and some of these chapters are peices of writing i’m most proud of. i also admire my restraint bc the slowburn has been insane. (and yes i’ve been writing it for 2+ years, but i really, really, mull over every detail bc of how much i love this world ok??)

for the sake of the wedding rwrb | E | 54k (wedding planner alex & best man henry)

i loved exploring henry’s complicated family dynamics. i wrote it in mostly his pov, which was SO fun. i loved making him super witty and wanted him to have the sharp tongue that he had in the book. he’s prob my favourite version of henry i’ve written. and alex was top notch loverboy in this and i loved exploring his relationship with law school and coping when things don’t turn out how you’d originally intended. overall very cathartic for me to write and i hope to maybe revist this world again for an epilogue 👀

my firstborn ♥️ i love coffeeshop aus and i love christmas aus so this one was so fun for me to write! this was my first time writing for rwrb and i remember being so fixated on making sure the characterization was accurate. plus i wrote it around christmas time in a coffee shop so it helped put me in the holiday mood. i think of this fic every december ♥️

my first time writing for another fandom. i genuinely had the best time writing this one. i needed a distraction while waiting for ep4 to drop, so wrote this! i was nervous about writing shane and ilya in an au because of how tethered to hockey they felt to me, but i ended up being really proud of the characterization and world i created in the end.

my second (and maybe last?) hr fic. i enjoyed getting to imagine what was happening in shane’s head after post-trade, and then ofc ilya being the best husband in the world.

this was so fun! it reminded me that it’s okay to self-promote and be proud of my own writing.

I've been reviewing the mess of half-written stuff for this one fic, trying to get it started enough to finish it off. But I found this one section, and I'm intrigued because I don't remember writing it. I found it in my journal from a full year+ ago, but I have no memory of the scene. And yet... I really love the vibe. So enjoy!

There were two kind of ghosts.

Or, at the very least, Henry could only quantify of two varieties from all his reading and studies.

The first was memory. People and places, long since past, but still embedded in the fabric of things. They lay fallow on the brain like a thin sheet on a bed in summer. Just there, forever there, whenever someone cared or dared to imagine them into existence.

The second were the genuine article. Specters, phantoms, the lingering dead that could be seen and heard but untouched. Shades and shadows made of an echoing soil needing something, looking for something, waiting for something. Flickering from room, to room, to room, until whatever remained was finally accomplished.

Kneeling in the cold water, just past the misting spray of White Lady Falls, Henry was suddenly wholly convinced of the second variety. He never had been before, but the water gave him no choice. It brooked no argument. 

Standing just a meter from him was his nan. His father’s mother, who had died before his eighth birthday, but he still remembered most fondly of all his grandparents. He stared in amazement, certain it was her, but unsure how. She’d lived the last thirty years of her life in Wales, the previous fifty-seven in a Sheffield row-home.

Henry was certain she’d never been to this place, tucked into the pulpy heart of Devon, and yet there she was. Tartan wool skirt laying just past her knees, cabled cardigan with sleeves pushed up to the elbows revealing the working hands that had knit it. Sensible shoes that Henry was sure she’d been wearing since the Kinder Transport. The cameo earrings her husband -- the grandfather Henry had never met — had given her, secure on her ears.

She looked the same. She watched him just how he remembered — with a certain tilt to her head, a laughing crease at the corner of her mouth as she listened intently to his childhood ramblings.

Henry swore he could smell rosemary, heather, powder and violet water perfume. The cold seeped in, water soaking him to the skin. He stared, and stared, mind unsure but heart already reaching out.

Then, the figure moved. A new shape, a new face. Someone new appeared there in the water.

I am more than okay with that, because believe me it is not pestering me. I just have to get creative with which WIP documents I’m diving into ;)

These were significantly harder, tell you what, but that was very fun! I came up snake eyes on “cower” and “liability” but honestly made a note to use them both more. Good words are good words!

He slipped back to bed. Let Anya burrow under the covers with him, laying her head on his leg. Back pressed against the headboard, Ilya waited for his heart to slow. It raced under his skin, pulse pounding in his ears like a drum. Anya whined, nosing at his hip in concern. Ilya pet her fluffy head, murmuring words as soothing for her as they were for him.

Suspicion | from River of the Gods

“He’s whip smart, I’ll grant you, but all I’m asking is that you let him work,” Arthur said, smoothly sidestepping Henry’s commentary — unusual. Normally he loved nothing more than friendly verbal sparring.

The Will of the Many

“Stars, hide your fires.” Henry’s head lifted.

Shaan’s eyes were closed, a lazy smile pulling at his mouth. “Let light not see my black and deep desires.”

He laughed to himself, a looser sound than Henry could have believed cane from him. Yet, there it was, plain as anything else in the room. Henry couldn’t keep even his thinnest smile off his own face. He knew the rest of that scene — and the many after it — by heart.

“Macbeth,” he whispered.

Shaan rolled his head along the seat back to look at him. “Good ear.”
