i am 1000% certain you will have the opportunity to spare tatterdemalion, or at the very least, forgive him for trying to destroy the world and whatnot
and i am also 1000% certain that Morgan will choose that option
because the thing is!!! theyre angry and spiteful and violent and aggressive and whatnot. but they're also sensitive and they just... like people. and when push comes to shove, theyre merciful. or, at least, they want to be someone who would choose mercy. mr cups killed Henry because it (or its agents) recognized that Morgan is someone who would drop everything to seek revenge for such a thing, and theyre still so upset and guilty about they, because cups was RIGHT about them. and they don't want it to be right about them. they dont want to be the person thats so angry and vengeful that it got their brother killed.
they're SO ANGRY at tatters for endangering them (and all their friends and family and their SON) and making them go on the worst road trip of their life. also the constant rain at the beginning must have been absolute murder on their arthritis. theyre PLANNING on killing him. they're chasing after him with the full intention of ending his fucking existence
but when they actually confront him??? they're just gonna keep thinking about how he cried in their arms after that trip into the stacks. how he was just. inconsolable and devastated to learn he cant go back to who (or what) he was before the Dawn Machine.
if nothing else.... it reminded them a lot of when Eliot came home from the Avid Horizon. desperate, miserable, marked forever by his mistakes. fully intended to end the world and kill everyone, including morgan.
how could they punish tatterdemalion for something their own brother did, too? how could they not show mercy to someone who had shown them such vulnerability? how could they STILL be so vengeful, even after it's cost them so much?
if he asks them to spare him, they will out of compassion. and if he asks them to kill him, they wont out of spite.
