i haven't read back over Firmament, but I keep thinking about how there were probably times that, narratively, it would make sense for Morgan to take the airship back to London for a while. and of course their family would be more than happy to host their officers while they're in town
i keep thinking about this because first of all, it's fun to think about their officers seeing how different they are when they're at home. while they're on the Roof, they're not... the friendliest. i don't think they're MEAN, but they're pretty focused on the mission (also, by this point theyre like. 40. and all the rain is doing a fucking number on all their frequently-broken bones. and while they understand why THEY'RE the guy who got asked to do all this, they're not exactly happy about it). so i think it would be a bit of a surprise when their scarred, imposing, business-like captain turns into a cheerful, friendly family-man as soon as they get home. just happily chatting about this or that while their 5 year old son is trying to crawl all over them asking if they saw any animals on the roof
second all of. god after chapter 8 of firmament thinking about those evenings it's just gonna burn them up. they'll be lying awake at night, remembering who they welcomed into their home, and they're gonna get to angry they won't be able to sleep. gonna stay up for hours just disassembling and reassembling a gun until it calms them enough to sleep for a few hours. they haven't been this angry in a long, loooong time. maybe not since their brother was murdered.
