Lo Moon and Fireworks over Leeds

Another firework by Pyro Diablo! Much like Retrosaurus, Spinosaurus’s box art has a fantastic choice of colors that are easy on the eyes and a background that goes perfectly with the overall mood of the piece. And of course, we can’t forget about the Spinosaurus here! The Spinosaurus’s white bone markings are striking and provide great contrast with the darker colors on the box. I also like how the sparse yellow accents like the mouth and the splotch on the sail match the color of the text. Very nice, very cool! I like this a lot!

I’m sure this firework doesn’t have anything to do with the children’s television show DINOSAUR TRAIN or anything... even if it did, what a weird choice for a firework name/box art. They must be tapping into the market of kids that tag along with older relatives to buy fireworks or something. Now, onto the art review.

The scene on this box is of a strangely normal looking train making its way through a prehistoric landscape, complete with MULTIPLE active volcanos. I guess you shouldn’t judge a train by its cover though, because it MIGHT ACTUALLY BE A FIREPROOF TIME TRAVELING TRAIN! Let’s just hope it can survive the other things inhabiting this time period though...

The dinos and not dinos on the box all have a consistent enough art style, so bonus points for not randomly grabbing random clip art without any regard for consistency. I couldn’t find a better quality image of this firework, so I can’t do a more in depth review unfortunately. All I can say is that they’re all pretty cute and fit with the rest of the artwork on the box. Hopefully they can get the hell out of there before one of those volcanos goes kaboom, or before one of the influencer tourists decides to hop out of the train and cause a catastrophe from attempting to take a selfie. I hope that brand deal with that shady tea company was worth it, bro!

All of these fireworks are from a series called “The Holy Beasts Pack” and each one of them is a triangularly shaped cake designed to fit into a square for packaging. Below is an example of how they look from a top-down perspective when they’re slotted together:

The artwork for each of the holy beasts are all unique, so I’ll give each one its own review.

Holy Beast “Babylon” is a winged lion roaring on top of a rocky outcrop. Its wings almost look as though they have been chiseled from rock as opposed to being covered in normal feathers, which really adds to the otherworldliness factor I think. Its mane resembles quills like those of a porcupine, a good artistic choice for giving off that danger vibe.

Holy Beast “Medo-Persia” is a bear with six tusks, like a really metal looking pig. Although, they’re arranged in a way that reminds me more of a saw shark. Although this one is probably the tamest in terms of design out of the four, it still manages to be unique and interesting. Saw-Bear is definitely one of my favorites.

Holy Beast “Greece” really kicks things up a notch. “Greece” is some kind of winged big cat, possibly a leopard or a cheetah (although the main head gives me tiger/bobcat vibes) with at least FOUR HEADS! None of the other four holy beasts have multiple heads, so this one really stands out. The main head has a shaggy mane and looks like it wants to eat you, while the one on its right is just chilling. The one to its immediate left seems to be hungry as well, and is definitely on board with the whole eating-you-plan. The one on the far left though, I’m not sure what it’s up to. Definitely my favorite out of the Holy Beasts series.

The final holy beast in the series is Holy Beast “Rome” which resembles classic fantasy/sci-fi artwork depicting dinolizarddragon things. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this beast was grabbed from an old movie poster or something (the same goes for the rest of the beasts, the firework industry isn’t particularly known for not stealing art). “Rome” is oldschool ceratopsian in form, and boasts MANY horns and even FANGS! Its crest looks like that crunchy flat bread you can buy at ikea, but if one of the crackers was left out in the sun for too long. Very over the top and dramatic, very nice.

Firework Art. Beautiful, beautiful explosives.

This box art appears to be inspired by the Johnny Cash song Ghost Riders in the Sky (which is a very cool song, you should check it out)! The flaming horse in the middle of the piece reminds me of the lyrics in the song: “Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky On horses snorting fire as they ride on, hear them cry”. Very cool!

The horse is set against a background of red clouds and molten material, which is thematically fitting. The word art on the box seems to have some inconsistent cropping on its background glow, though. You can especially see this with the space between the R, the I, and the gap in the letter D. It doesn’t detract much from the box art unless that kind of thing tends to stick out to you.

Overall, this is a cool piece referencing a good song.
