Kombatember Day 8: Wounded
Character bios and lore pages from the official Midway website for Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero, accessed through the wayback machine. I think this is really important and fascinating information that deserves to be preserved. The detailed character and more info here is great to have
Medjed, the smiter. An enigmatic and uncanny god, Medjed is a member of the house of Osiris. Despite seemingly hailing from Duat, Medjed doesnât appear to participate in the soulâs journey across the afterlife unlike the other gods that call it home. However, Medjedâs command over the Nile god Hapi implies a higher position in the pantheon.
Medjed smites his enemies with light fired off from his eyes while his breath burns with flame. His body is said to be invisible, remaining unseen to those unlucky enough to draw his ire.
âââââ
Medjed is a rarely spoken of and depicted Egyptian god, only being mentioned in a single spell in the Book of the Dead. Medjedâs visual depictions are more common, appearing in 9 papyri and some coffins. Because of this rarity, little is known about Medjed.
Medjedâs appearance is incredibly strange for an Egyptian god. Medjed is unlike other gods whoâre mainly depicted with animal heads or fully human. Instead, Medjed appears as someone seemingly covered in a shroud with two eyes and feet peeking out from underneath, occasionally Medjed is seen wearing a knotted sash or belt either above or below the eyes. Even stranger is that Medjed is seen facing forward, rather than the typical side profile every other being is depicted in Egyptian art, leading to him being even more unusual. This shrouded appearance is primarily believed to represent Medjedâs imperceptible nature, with his feet and eyes illustrating that heâs still an active being who can move and see. This admittedly both eerie and cute appearance has led Medjed to become world famous in the 21st century, especially in Japan after the greenfield papyrus was shown off in a 2012 exhibition.
Frankly, what Medjed represents as a god is unknown, however that hasnât stopped some academics from hypothesizing. Some have proposed that rather than a shroud, Medjed is actually an anthropomorphic jar with the belt he wears used as a lid fastener. This however carries little evidence, as the belt integral to this view is frequently missing or is in different places that donât connote a lid, likely meaning that it wasnât an essential characteristic. Another hypothesis suggests that Medjed couldâve been a god of a certain star. This conclusion is drawn upon Medjedâs associations with light and fire. Medjedâs command over the Nile god Hapi also plays into this, as the annual flooding of the Nile was connected with ancient Egyptian astronomy. However, despite this substantial circumstantial evidence, Medjedâs name does not carry the star determinative in Egyptian hieroglyphics, casting doubt on this claim. With the high emphasis placed on Medjedâs destructive capabilities, one of the most likely interpretations is that Medjed was a god of punishment and justice, this is primarily evidenced by Medjedâs description in the book of the dead appearing in the section listing Duatâs judges and executioners. With his power, Medjed couldâve been seen as the deific punisher of the sinful souls within Duat. This couldâve been the reason as to why Medjed was rarely mentioned, as speaking of him could incur his wrath. It is also possible that multiple of these theories could be true, as Egypt was no stranger to multifaceted deities.
Aside from Osiris, Medjed was also associated with Horus as well. Frequently, Medjed was depicted alongside two other gods, one a double headed falcon, and the other being a vulture headed god. While the vulture god cannot be concretely identified as it seems to go unmentioned in text, the double falcon god however is. This double falcon god is mentioned in the Book of the Dead as a form of Horus that both unsympathetically punishes evildoers while rewarding the virtuous with truth.
Medjedâs name is actually the Egyptian word for âsmiterâ or âdestroyerâ. In other writings Medjed is instead rendered as Medjedu or Metchet.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. What the fuck even was he? I knew there was a reason I had a bad feeling about him.
But why did he even help me? That was the question I still didn't have an answer to.
I heard a quick scream and started running again thinking he was after me. I ran to the closest latch of woods I could find, probably not the best idea, but at the moment I didn't care. The trees felt like a hug, like I was protected by something bigger than me.
I got low to the ground, making myself as small as possible "stay away" I whispered to myself, like somehow it would help my situation any. He looked like something out of a horror movie. What the fuck even was he? A demon? A god?
I heard the sounds of heavy footsteps running "nova!!" I heard his voice yelling my name and my breath became shakey. I got lower to the ground. I covered my mouth to hide my breath but I knew it wouldn't last long. Adrenaline was coursing through me and I needed to breath.
When I uncovered my mouth I heard his feet spin around. Fuck.
I saw his boots walk right up to where I was and I looked up at him, his eyes still glowing. I stood up quickly, my breath still shakey.
"what are you?" I asked, the tremble in my voice evident.
He let out a sigh, before running his hands through his hair "a fire deity"
My mind raced back to the night of the fire at work "you.. you saved us from the fire"
He nodded "I drew it into myself. I couldn't let you get hurt"
I looked at him confused "why me? What's so special about me?"
He sighed again, this time he looked like he was thinking of the right words to say before he said them "because..." He hesitated "because you're my mate, and if anyone hurt you..."
I looked at him like he'd just grew 2 heads "mate?" I laughed humorlessly "that's rich. Is that the best excuse you-" before I could finish my sentence, his lips crashed against mine. His kiss was unlike anything I've ever felt. Warm, passionate, fiery. I felt his hands tangle in my hair, yanking my head back slightly.
"tell me you don't want this, he said breathlessly and I'll walk away right now and never bother you again" he whispered softly.
My eyes searched his "don't go" the words left my lips before I could stop them.
His massive hand cupped my face "I'm not going anywhere" he whispered before his lips touched mine again, just as hungry as the first time. He pulled me to him, pressing my body against his.
He pulled back just enough to meet my gaze, both of us panting heavily. Before I could react, he letter me up and pinned me against a tree "you have no idea how much I've wanted you, needed you"
My heart thundered in my chest, the realization that this man, this fire god wanted me, not to hurt me, but to make me his was both terrifying and utterly thrilling.
His hands slid into my jeans, sliding them down my legs. My hands reached for his belt, letting his pants fall to the ground.
He lined himself up with my entrance "mine" he growled, before thrusting inside of me in one smooth motion, both of us letting out a loud groan of pleasure.
"fuck you feel even better then I imagined" he growled against my neck.
His hips moved at a steady pace but I need more, I needed all of him "don't hold back"
A smirk crossed his lips "as my lady wishes"
His hips slammed against mine, all rational thought leaving me.
"I won't last long like this" he groaned loudly.
I smirked slightly "a god who doesn't last long?"
"you feel to good and it's been a long time" he whispered against my lips.
"I won't last much longer either if you keep that up" I said, my hands tingling in his hair.
"let go baby girl, let go for me" he whispered "let me feel you"
I felt myself come undone around him, my body giving in to pleasure. Stars formed behind my eyes, before I heard him let out a low roar of pleasure.
"fuck... Fuck... Fuck... Nova!" His groans were music to my ears and nearly made me come undone again.
He buried his face in my neck, breathing heavily. A slight laugh escaped him "we'll be doing that again, right?"
I smiled "for as long as you'll have me"
The Fire God enjoying some music off a DiscMan - digitation from the sequel to the Disco Champ! You late 90s kids still have one? I have a couple visors and albums of DVD and CDs...and I want them not to perish! Despite the rise of the streaming services, quite plenty of people watch films on DVD! And listen to music on CDs. And I also prefer the physical restaurant menu - believe it or not, some people still use +10 year old phones...
What is the first phone you owned? Mine was a BQ Aquaris U Lite, my current one is inherited from sister.

This Concept art is leaning more so in AU territory but I wanted to draw this one idea I had thought about.
'Imagine if Mk1 Raiden had 3 more siblings and those 3 being the mortal forms of the 3 other elemental gods from Mythologies.'
