Day 12. Regret
At night we are all the same,
Traitors and judges.
Do not ponder over what I am to do
When you are gone.

finrod i think you may have done this to yourself
“You need not come,” Finrod says, smiling in that half-secret way of his, as a fox about to dive beneath a fence, “I shall tell father I have gone entirely without your knowledge, and you certainly shall not be held accountable for my deeds.”
He is holding up his dress-gown, and a very pretty mask shaped as a beak of a swamp-crane, to the wear to the masquerade ball in Formenos, where he is not allowed to step foot.
“Of course I need to come,” Edrahil says, thinking of the red plumes of the eldest house, of sword bared in the courtyard, “what if something ill comes of it?”
Finrod laughs. “They are my cousins,” he says, “nothing ill could come; nothing ill shall come.”
* * *
“You need not come,” Finrod says. All around them is a terrible darkness and the whistle of the wind. The starlight catches in his blond-white hair, in his eyes, grey-green, giving him a ghostly look, as a flower covered in morning dew. “My servant you have been, but you are my father’s man, and often your judgement lies with his. Stay, if your heart so cautions you.”
Edrahil tries to picture the ice in front of them; tries to imagine walking over thousands and thousands of miles of frozen ocean. The smell of salt-water and blood will not leave him. “I am not afraid,” he lies, “of course I shall go.”
* * *
“You need not come,” Finrod says. The familiar halls of Nargothrond feel suddenly heavy, confining, their carved surfaces decorated with crystals as the walls of a tomb. “Tis not a thing I could ask of you, when near no other comes.”
You could ask me anything of me, Edrahil thinks. I would cut out my own beating heart.
“Of course,” he says, “of course.”
more art for @raisingcain-onceagain‘s Together All Things Go, because the imagery was haunting me and i had to make an attempt to get it down on paper! kanimelde, or at least my interpretation thereof. if you like findrahil and AUs, I highly recommend!
#20 with finrod/edrahil? 🥺 some fluffy star-gazing maybe? Or whatever else you feel inspired to.
This is literally the 'the stars are beautiful tonight. You know what else is beautiful?' meme, except it's really sweet and sappy.
From this prompt list.
20 - "You have always outshone the stars to me."

every silm ship goes smth like character a/ character b, where character a has sworn and oath and thinks that it defines their fate and character b tells them not to let that oath define their fate
