“Good day?” “It was a day.” he shrugged, standing for a moment to watch her float. Relaxed and happier than he seemed to feel. “My love,” Finan picked up the towel on the lounge by the edge of the pool and moving it, “we need to talk.” “About?” Resting her elbows on the side of the pool, Carys looked up at Finan. Looking at her sweet face, the hint of a smile that she wore, feeling the love radiating from the woman before him, Finan chickened out. Oh hell, he could wait another day to tell her everything. He'd waited this long.

When Uhtred had asked the others how they felt about a calendar, to raise a bit of extra money for the fire house, Finan had been skeptical. The last time they had held a fundraiser event, Finan had been dunked into a water tank, pelted with balloons full of jelly, and almost set on fire by Brida. Thank god they were in a room full of trained professionals. Today was Finan's turn to do his photos for the calendar. Given the address to the studio, he had been sent on his merry way, with nothing more than wishes of luck from his colleagues. Sihtric had done his yesterday, insisting that it wasn't so bad. They were to show up, put on their bunker gear, and take a few photos. The dark haired Dane had done his shoot with a random litter or rescue kittens. Nobody had said anything about being covered in cake.
