so I've been researching what the hell went wrong with file transfer from my Android phone to my newly crap-graded computer that MS forced to run Windows 11, and from everything I'm reading it's because they no longer support File Transfer Protocol

the only way to transfer files from your phone to a Windows 11 machine is to pull the memory card and slip that into the computer. unless you're willing to enable bloat/spyware plus create a Microsoft account to do a task that used to involve nothing more than hooking up a USB cable

have a cool program for e2ee file transfer inspired by thinking about two wizards opening up wormholes to transfer tomes to each other

Get things from one computer to another, safely. This package provides a library and a command-line tool named wormhole, which makes it possible to get arbitrary-sized files and directories (or short pieces of text) from one computer to another. The two endpoints are identified by using identical “wormhole codes”: in general, the sending machine generates and displays the code, which must then be typed into the receiving machine. The codes are short and human-pronounceable, using a phonetically-distinct wordlist. The receiving side offers tab-completion on the codewords, so usually only a few characters must be typed. Wormhole codes are single-use and do not need to be memorized.

it also has some different clients including a gui version here (note; it's also a program you gotta use with command line but once it opens it'll have a window and you can just pin that to your taskbar to not have to run the command line to get it up and running)

I have a Synology NAS, and I run Ubuntu as my primary OS. I've added a line to my fstab to auto-mount the NAS on boot. I've been having challenges transferring files between my laptop (Ubuntu 22.04) and that NAS. Transfers are obscenely slow, we're talking 10MB/s when it should be north of 50MB/s. I've been fighting with it on and off and have discovered the following:

It is not my VPN. It does not matter if it is enabled or disabled, the same behaviour occurs.

If I reboot, same behaviour occurs.

In Windows 10, the behaviour does not occur. The transfers are speedy.
