Okay but when you really think about it Jacob battling "the angel" God (it's God come on you guys it's clearly stated in the text) is so hillarious
Idk if i'm the only one but wherever i see "a human-like manifestation of God" i immediately understand it as Jesus. Old Testament, New Testament, doesn't matter. That's my capital G Guy, right there. So the thought that Jacob got into a fight with Jesus?! Hillarious, idk what to tell y'all
Like, how did it even happen??? Jacob was transporting his family and belongings through a brook and then came back and was alone and then met God and wrestled Him?? What the heck happened there??? Who started??? Did Jacob just see a random guy and decided to throw hands for no reason??? Did Jesus start??? Was He like "hey you! let's have a friendly wrestle you and I! :D" and Jacob got competitive and turned it into a death match??? Did Jesus actually went and attack him (not on-brand but He can be such a wild card sometimes <3)??? Did the conversation start perfectly normally but somehow evolved into a brawl??? What happened?!?!?!
And the way it ended, comedy gold as well:
"When the man [God] saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man."
I mean, i don't really imagine Jesus getting into many fights during His time on Earth, He probably wasn't the best fighter - but then again, He's God Almighty? So did He want a friendly wrestle, ended up fighting for His life, had a primal human thought of "Oh no oh man he's gonna kill me DAD HELP" and impulsively paralized Jacob's hip??? In a "I can't win with my human strength so I'll have to use my Godly nature's miracles" way? If so, what does that mean theologically for the hypostatic union?? Or was He perfectly confident the whole time but acted defeated and let Jacob win to make him feel good just like a parent does to their child??? In a "hehehe HIP SNATCH! >:D" way??? (If so, the fact Genesis was written like He struggled is even funnier)
Just, fascinating, iconic, delicious encounter, i'm rolling on the floor
