Didn't think that I'd have to post this exact comparison again, didn't even think I'd have to post it once, and yet I stand disappointed again.

Again, the incident has been "handled": Booking.com took the hotel off its platform and the hotel itself was contacted by the Israeli consulate in Munich. The hotel at first denied sending the message, but later stated that it was indeed one of its employees that sent it. It is yet unclear if the case will lead to formal proceedings.

Let me point out that one small detail. They didn't said Israelis weren't allowed, they didn't say Zionists weren't allowed. They said Jews. Now Bavarians aren't new at the scene of antisemitism, in fact they are very experienced, but nowadays, we don't say Jews when we're being discriminatory, no, we say something else. You're not supposed to say the quiet part out loud! (For those in my comments who don't understand sarcasm, that was it.)

This joins many concerning cases across Europe and the UK (not to mention the US!) that reenact the nostalgic scenes of the 1930s and 1940s. (Again, sarcasm). I haven't yet made a post about the spa in Spain that refused a Jewish woman on entry on account of her Magen David necklace. And here Europe strikes again, in the very place the Nazi party rose to power. All those woke westerners that are so proud to chant about punching Nazis, and where are you now? Aren't you ashamed? Wouldn't even recognize one if it was saluting in your face.

I'm watching channel 12 news with my mom, and he made a statement that they(his political party) won't take down the government, but they won't be a part of it.

Bombing innocent people while they are waiting for food is evil.

And you can scream all about Hamas you want but in every conflict there is an extremist group and they do not treat the Palestinians well either.

It would take 52 years to visit all the funerals of every Palestinian child that has died. Israel is not a victim. They are supported by the US and they have more fire power. They've played the anti Semitic card against Bernie Sanders who is Jewish and who opposes the genocide that Israel is inflicting on the Palestinian people.

When people are oppressed and they've been deprived of their rights, they will lash out. It's human nature.

Again, you're not pro life if you justify who gets to live and who gets die. Pro life values all life. If you only chose who deserves life that is selective morality. You are excusing certain types of violence. Guns have led to the massacres of countless children and is the leading method of suicide in the US.

Why would I listen to the organization that wasted most of Gaza’s aid resources and a religious institution I don’t even believe in?

Like I said, I don’t like when innocent people die.

I’m not here to cry victim for Israel. You’re right, they are winning right now. Something you must realize the only reason why there is a single Jew in the Middle East is BECAUSE they’re winning.

Do I agree with everything Israel has ever done? Hell no, but that country does accept Arabs as full citizens since its inception(can’t say the reverse for Arab countries), has freedom of speech and religion laws, and doesn’t hang gay people for being gay.

I fucking hate Hamas. I hate them way more than I like Israel. Hamas is a far greater threat to the Palestinians than Israel. All Israel wants is their hostages back and to stop being bombed. Any Palestinian who speaks out against Hamas doesn’t live to tell the tale.

Israel gets missiles fired at them every day, from various different countries. During peace and war, nearly every single day. If Israel didn’t have their iron dome, their death toll would far outweigh the Palestinians. Yes there is something to be said about actual deaths compared to prevented deaths, but how can you expect Israel to stop when they’ll be massacred the moment they do? You act like Israel is the oppressor, but they literally have Palestinians that land in 2005, yet they elected Hamas(not a single election since then mind you) and have been killing Jews ever since. It still sucks when innocents die on any side, but don’t act like they’re the victims when many of them would give up their own lives if it killed a Jew. This isn’t your social/political antisemitism we have in America. This isn’t “Don’t vote for them they’re antisemitic,” this is “son, if you kill enough Jews you’ll go to heaven, go my son make me proud.” You are genuinely so privileged that you can say “it’s just a bit of antisemitism” when you’re not the one who’s been the victim of blood libel for thousands of years.

Even though it really really sucks that innocent people are dying, there is no evidence that there is a genocide going on. It is a war. Israel provides aid to innocents, they try their very best to only target terrorist-infested locations, and warn civilians of areas that are going to be bombed BEFORE they drop anything. You gotta realize that Hamas has a network of tunnels that could provide shelter to most if not all of the Palestinians, yet they let not a single non-combatant inside, unless you count the Israeli hostages they still have.

Name one genocide victim that refuses peace deals and breaks cease fires, MULTIPLE TIMES. Name one genocide victim that holds hostages without any intention of ever letting them go. If Hamas wanted this “genocide” to stop, it would have happened long ago. Israel has made very clear what their conditions are from day 1. It’s quite reasonable actually.

The ratification of the Constitution was one of the most important events in the history of Diaspora Jewry, as one historian called it, making American Jews “the modern world’s first free Jewry.” And yet, it went both ways. Did not the Jews make the rest of the United States free? Were they not the proof of concept of freedom itself, the proof to Christian Americans that they meant what they said? For how could their Christian neighbors know they really meant it, that this country would protect the rights of non-Christians, without some non-Christians to test it out on? Indeed, there would be much higher barriers to Catholic and Mormon equality for much of the history of the United States than there would ever be for Jews.

In the very act of treating them like everyone else, the new United States skirted the pitfalls of European Enlightenment efforts at Jewish emancipation, which always demanded Jews abandon their Jewishness in order to achieve those equal rights. “The Jews should be denied everything as a nation, but granted everything as individuals,” Count Clermont-Tommerre infamously said in France in 1789.

This was never the case in America. Here, people were not granted freedom on any condition; freedom was a gift from God, who wanted His children to worship him in many forms, it turned out. A country that sought His blessing would have to protect the children of the stock of Abraham. Finally, in 1791, this idea was ratified as the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” It was a promise that, as Jonathan Sarna puts it, the federal government would never again favor one religion over another. The government would protect Jews from legal discrimination, rather than enforcing it upon them. The Jews were in the country not due to the tolerance of their neighbors, but by the grace of God.

We needed a religious country to become free—and it needed us to enshrine those freedoms for all. This, in the end, is the source of America’s exemplary treatment of the Jews: As a result of the mirror the Jews held up to them, which cast them in the light of protectors of God’s bounty, American Christians developed a deep identification with their Jewish neighbors.

Opposing Jews—their heritage or their existence—meant opposing America. Antisemitism in America was always, critically in opposition to the entire project, because the very freedoms that define what it means to be an American were deeply associated with its Jewish citizens.

It was because the early Americans believed they had a covenant with God to protect the rights—God-given—of every person, that Jewish American history is a tale of freedom. Jews helped the new country understand what it was about. Americans would be litigious, like Asser Levy. They would take pride in success and making money, like Haym Salomon. They would protect the religious liberty of their neighbors—and they would not take credit for that, as though liberty were a gift they were bestowing. They would aver. They would credit the Creator for that gift and cast themselves as its protector.

“By demanding an ‘opposing view’ for a discussion on antisemitism, the administration implies antisemitism is a valid perspective and worthy of equal consideration,” Felipe Avila, president and founder of SSI at CUA, said in the press release. “CUA is effectively saying Jewish safety on campus can only be discussed if we also platform those who threaten it.”

Avila condemned the university for suggesting that antisemitism is a “legitimate viewpoint in our modern society.”

In a statement sent to Washington Jewish Week, the CUA administration expressed its commitment to opposing antisemitism.

“It is for this reason that the University did not simply deny Students Supporting Israel the opportunity to host a conversation on this topic. Our written response explicitly invited Students Supporting Israel to submit a restructured proposal with a balanced presentation that would include a variety of voices addressing antisemitism and the responsibilities of all members of our community to create a campus climate that promotes a consistent commitment to upholding the dignity of all human persons. That offer remains open,” the statement read. “We look forward to working with Students Supporting Israel to host a thoughtful conversation.” 

Avila also said the CUA administration is holding SSI at a “double standard” compared to other student organizations.

“In my four years, as far as I’m aware, this policy has never been applied,” Avila told Washington Jewish Week.

Other registered student groups including Catholic U College Democrats and CUA College Republicans “routinely host highly partisan, one-sided speakers,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

The College Democrats recently held an event featuring an activist who advocates for legalized, expanded abortion access, without an opposing speaker, according to Avila.

Avila initially proposed Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) as the speaker for SSI at CUA’s presentation, given the congressman’s legislative work on ending antisemitism. He said the university denied Avila’s request to host the event based on the topic rather than the speaker. Avila said he had been willing to select another guest speaker if necessary, but was not given the opportunity.
