I love going through my childhood field guides because I can find little reminders of how engaged I was with the world around me. I was given this Ontario Wildflower guide when I was about 8 years old, and clearly I had been working on filling out the checklist. I see you, baby Ally. I see how curious you were about the world 🩷
Southern California UFO Field Guide by Grant Knapp & Amanda Lanthorne If you live in Southern California, you are no stranger to UFOs! ESPECIALLY if you've lived here as long as ME.
This handy handbook shows you UFO groups like Heaven's Gate, many Scientology off-shoots and El Cajon's favorites Unarius Academy of Science. They provide a map of "hot spots." They list several Space Programs like Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Mojave Air and Space Port and Palomar Observatory. It ends with locations of military sites - well you get the idea.
It's beautifully done, actually. Do not be afraid!

The final dragon is done. I need to iron it and then I'll get it framed for my son. Pattern is Dragons: A Field Guide, by Climbing Goat Designs.
Finished my European Dragon, which leaves me with one more dragon to stitch🐉

Field Guide Once, in the cool blue middle of a lake, up to my neck in that most precious element of all, I found a pale-gray, curled-upwards pigeon feather floating on the tension of the water at the very instant when a dragonfly, like a blue-green iridescent bobby pin, hovered over it, then lit, and rested. That’s all. I mention this in the same way that I fold the corner of a page in certain library books, so that the next reader will know where to look for the good parts. —Tony Hoagland
