He most certainly is!

I am a person who fidgets with my hands, but I also put things in my mouth. Not all the way, just part of the way. The loop of a safety pin, the curve of a paper clip, the charm on a necklace, the clip of a mechanical pencil. I just put it in my mouth. I need one that I can put in my mouth, partially, of course, that's not a choking hazard and perfectly able to clean itself. It needs to taste right, too. I like putting metallic things in my mouth. Safety pins, barrettes, paper clips, necklace charms, necklace chains, zippers, stuff like that. Springs are fun. But some metals just are disgusting. Barrettes that had paint on them, for example. The metal needs to taste right but be able to not rust, easy to clean. Plastics are good, too. Mechanical pencil clips are great. But plastic covered paper clips, that plastic is horrible. Uh. I hate those. The tips of mech pencils, the part you can twist/pull off, those are good. Erasers are fun to chew. Those, I stick all the way in my mouth. They come from empty mechanical pencils, so... Mechanical pencils are a treasure trove of chewable materials. The springs, the caps, the clips, the erasers, the tube that holds the lead. I just need a fidgeter that I can put in my mouth, alright?

A couple people I interviewed recently reported their hyperactivity as clearly physical (lots of walking, cant sit still, athletics, etc). 🧠 Others described their hyperactivity as more of a mental/emotional energy that’s been “internalized.” For example: feeling restless in a meeting from so many ideas and having to contain all that energy. 🧠 I experience both. I’ve always been really physically intense, athletic and just generally moving around. However, I’ve also learned the lovely adult habit of “masking” how I feel to appease people, fit in, and avoid trouble.
