Hi!!! First off happy birthday!!!!! As for some angst, how do you think things would've gone if Percy had died while they were retrieving the Deathwalker's Ward? With that good good Perc'ildan touch. C:
Thank you!! This is technically the day after but ty nonetheless!!
Percy’s recklessness isn’t new to anyone. It’s expected at this point. And even the most logical of minds make mistakes.
After all, the location of the vestige seemed hidden enough with enough traps already - why would there be another here? There was no need for it, right?
So, unlike Vex and Trinket, Percy doesn’t pull back as they shove the sarcophagus lid open. He holds none of their concern or resolve. And thus he is engulfed in the death energy it radiates.
There is a moment where a look of surprise, not panic, crosses Percy’s face then nothing as his body goes still, crumpling to the ground like a discarded rag doll.
Obviously there is no doubt in trying to resurrect him - Percy’s just as much a member of Vox Machina as the rest. Just as valued and just as treasured.
But nothing happens the first time the spell is cast. Orthax already has his grip on Percival’s soul, ready to trap the gunslinger in an eternal torment.
So obviously Greater Restoration is cast and the ritual begins.
Keyleth wraps her hands around the raven skull she had once given Percy, reminding him that there are those waiting for him back home. There are those that care enough to offer small and simple things for the simple fact they love him.
Vex’ahlia removes a feather from her hair and tucks it behind his ear. A soft plead for him to come home to them. They did not reclaim Whitestone only for it to lose him so quickly. They could not defeat the Chroma Conclave without him.
Then there’s Vax. He doesn’t offer himself up as blatantly as he did his sister. But he still stares at Percival’s body for a few moments as if there was some disbelief; some improbability that the gunslinger’s body should be so still.
“Bring him back to me. I will do anything but Gods, please bring him back to me.” Then a kiss to his lips to seal such a deal.
For a moment, nothing happens. There is a sinking silence that seems to stretch out for far, far too long.
Then a gasp of air as Percival’s chest begins to rise then fall.
“Well, this is certainly one way to wake up.”
And Vax holds him close: as if his gunslinger is one of the most valuable things in the world.
