Mabel is a podcast about ghosts, family secrets, strange houses, and missed connections.

Mabel is one of the better known f/f podcasts out there, and for good reason. It's mysterious and atmospheric, with dreamlike writing and emotive acting. It starts as a series of voicemails left on an answering machine, and for much of season one feels like a psychological horror in the making. But over time the fae creep in, and it becomes something more intimate and fantastical. It's a very vibes-driven show, somewhat abstract plot-wise. But it's the emotional connection between these two messy women that are the heart of it.

The Great South was alone. A small rock formed atop the bones of dead gods and leviathans, drifting within an endless ocean. People left to their own petty wars and dogmas. But now, from that same ocean, comes a wave of death in the form of savage invaders, striking without cause against the Eightfold House of Holy Ichors and its 8 Bleeding Monks. In the wake of their eradication, a battlefield scavenger by the name of Jericho Raeke goes picking through the remnants and discovers something that puts him, and his unlikely allies, at the centre of the conflict.

This dark fantasy story takes place in an alt version of late-medieval Ireland, which is being invaded by Northmen. It features a full, talented cast with voiceover, as our protagonist encounters powerful magic and then has to retreat from the encroaching army. It's dark and gory - in terms of tone and conceit I've seen it compared to Malevolent, and I have to agree, there's a lot here for those fans to appreciate. Fair warning though that the protag growl-whispers a lot of his dialogue, so you may want to keep that in mind when choosing where and how to listen.

The small desert planet of Midst spins on the border between two halves of the cosmos: the dazzling Un and the mysterious Fold. Life is simple for most of the planet’s inhabitants… until an influential civilization known as the Trust takes an interest in Midst and sparks an unexpected chain of events, intertwining the lives of three complicated antiheroes. Also, unrelated to any of that, Midst’s moon is about to fall out of the sky and cause reality to eat itself alive, so that’s not great either. Unsolved murders, cult brainwashing, and supernatural darkness all combine to create a clusterfuck of cosmic proportions.

Three narrators tell the story of three protagonists: a soldier, a swindler, and a monster hunter, centered around the small planet of Midst. The real takeaways are the unique world-building, and the three-narrator device which keeps things fun and interesting throughout the woven story.
