You know what I love? Japanese swords. Do I know a ton about them? No. Maybe more than the average person? I remember that katana isn't the real name for a standard-sized sword. I can recognize Sephiroth's giant sword Masamune as an odachi (I believe the slightly shorter version is a nodachi...?). I know a bunch of names like wakazashi and the small tanto. I believe the sheath is called a saya...
But just because we don't know everything about them doesn't mean we can't appreciate the majesty of hundreds of years worth of perfectionâso good that even in a world where guns exist, the legendary hero Sephiroth, who would doubtlessly have perfect aim, chooses to use a very beautiful odachi. (We'll talk about the history of Masamune later.)
Today, I want to take a look at the Japanese-style swords available in Ever Crisis and just admire the cool designs! 𼰠But we're not starting with Sephiroth, he's the grand finale because the designs are just gorgeous. We're starting with characters other than Sephiroth that get to have a Japanese-style sword for this post. Miniroth (that is, young Sephiroth) literally has so many that I may have to split it into 2 posts, due to the 30 image limit. Enough chat, let's go!
First up, Angeal, with Cyan's Blade from the FFVI Crossover Event! (Please note that I attempted to take screenshots of swords with their appropriate outfits, but I don't have them all, so I just did my best. I doubt I even have all the swords, since I didn't play the game till it became available on PC.) The screenshots were hard to take, because the camera is very limited, sorry I couldn't get better images!
The marking along the blade is a classic sign of a well-made Japanese sword. There is 100% cool science behind it that I've researched before and eventually forgotten. Should I have done proper research before this? Maybe. But some people just want to admire the swords. If it interests you, I encourage you to research it! I feel like the spiky guard on this sword would definitely get in the way of 2-handed strikes, but as a SOLDIER, Angeal is strong enough to use it one-handed. Longer than a katana, this is maybe...a nodachi??
Angeal again, this time with a blade called Tranquility. I like that the wrap on the handle is white, symbolizing things like peace and innocence. (Again, there's a name for that wrapping, I watched a super cool video about it. I think it was Men At Arms forging Masamune, they talked about all of these things, very cool, highly recommend.)
Cloud with Murasame, my absolute favorite of Cloud's Japanese-style swords! With a famous name, it's basically Cloud's version of Masamune, and I love it. Lightning attacks! A beautiful, classic odachi with a lovely black/gold color scheme. (It seems a bit longer than Angeal's swords...)
Cloud with Skysplitter, a katana designed with a flame pattern to match the fire attacks it can do. The color scheme also matches the New Year's outfit it came with. Very cool! But I can't help but think that the hole in the base of the blade would make it considerably weaker.
And, last but not least, we have Zack with the sword Virtuous Contract from the Nier event crossover. I've never played that game, but it's a cool design. Again, featuring white for "virtue". For anyone that doesn't know, when you look up flower meanings, they're different depending on country. Aerith grows yellow and white lilies in the church. So they tell us that yellow lilies mean "reunion" and I will tell you that the Japanese meaning of white lilies is "innocence". The innocent reunion of Zack and Aerith that never had a chance to be until they met again in the lifestream.
Anywho, that's it for today. Tune in tomorrow for Miniroth: Part 1!
Happy 30th birthday to FFVI! I donât have any finished anniversary art to share, unfortunately, but I do have another idea I think is more manageable for me today.
FFVI Sketch Requests!
Today only (unless I ever do this again) send in an ask with a sketch request and Iâll try my hand at drawing it!
Rules are:
Fluff ship art is fine, but no NSFW
And just no illegal or otherwise concerning ships that are gonna make me very worried for your well-being.
Other than that, scenes from the game, headcanons, redraws of memes, etc are all fine!
Note that it might take a little bit because I donât have the day off or anything, but Iâll do my best to be somewhat timely. If I canât finish all of them today Iâll keep working on them tomorrow.
(ALSO! Reminder that if youâd like a chance for some FFVI stickers or coloring pages thereâs a raffle pinned on my blog! The only requirement is that you follow me. Maybe I shouldâve saved that for todayâŚ.. nah.)
Naminè and Dorian Pavus!!
Naminè
Why I like them:
1)The mysteries about her. Why does she have a different voice than Xion or Kairi? Why does she look different from Kairi? Where does she get her powers? Does it mean something that her star charm in Re: CoM now, in retrospect, looks like it is the keychain off the Starlight keyblade? Why does she talk about being alone for so long in Chain of Memories and invoke the feeling of long standing loneliness and solitude (for real, take a shot every time she says she waited/was alone âso longâ), and have a fine tuned grasp of not only self but of powers that the Org probably couldnât have taught her (though maybe Zexion could have helped a bit since he commands illusions), and, aside from power knowledge, personal knowledge on how exactly how to deconstruct Soraâs past when she had, supposedly, only been created at the same time as Roxas who was still figuring things out in general and barely had any Sora dreams at that time? Even Xion took longer to tap into Sora. Can we trust what we are told about her origins that answers some of these questions or has Kairi also been sheltering more people in her heart? 2) That sheâs the embodiment of donât confuse kindness or softness with weakness 3) That she retains a kind, trusting nature and wants to help despite what her life has been like
Why I donât: Both not enough and too much done with her at the same time, if that makes sense. She shows up a lot of places, has a deus ex machina feel in some of them, and yet she doesnât truly add anything in a lot of them or what she does do (like the Coded messages) then needs to be redone/re-explained from other sources, and I say that as someone who loves the character.
Favorite scene: I canât think of a specific right now, though, a lot of her wistful drawing lives she thinks she canât have scenes stick with me. Nerdy answer, but some of her explanations of how memories and her powers related to them work and what exactly she is doing to Sora. Lore and characterization implications
Favorite game: Chain of Memories
Favorite line: When sheâs telling Sora that one day his light will be what brings everyone together and makes things right.
Favorite outfit: A few of the fandom blue dresses, but alas, there is only one canon outfit.Â
OTP: The one part throws me off with a lot of characters because sometimes it just depends on the day. Is this a Namishi day or a Ventus/Naminè day?Â
Brotp: Naminè and SoraÂ
Head Canon: Naminè would be able to fight the same way Relm does in FFVI. Thereâs a reason that Arrowny is my go-to last name for her 9/10 when I need one. To explain: Relm is an artist and magic user and her signature technique is to do a quick sketch of the monsters which then comes to life and attacks them (Doodle Bob before Spongebob existed). This would be obviously difficult to implement in a game unless it was turn based (though they could make it a special triangle action command ability), but this isnât strictly for a future game, just something I think could/should be possible in universe and I might implement in a fic sometime. Honestly, every time someone says they want Nam to fight, but not be a keyblade wielder and start debating what she would do, I want to say this, even if I think the fact that she could be/already is a spellcaster is pretty much a given too.
Unpopular opinion: I donât think evil!Naminè or, at the very least pushed-too-far-and-having-an-outburst Naminè is that much of a leap. IDK, the few people I have talked to about Naminè snapping and going off the rails, even if they were all for it, seemed to treat it as an alien concept, but nobody is arguing she doesnât have power enough to be immediately dangerous and screw things up to the point where people are not easily fixed. We know, at least in the beginning that she can go morally questionable to be self-serving even if she regrets it/wants to reverse it/has lines she wonât cross later (at least in canon). We know she has potential to have an angry moment and lash out (see: her telling Repliku to stop and immediately taking him out with magic). Even though we see her subservient and pliant with the Org and then DiZ most of the time, that doesnât mean thatâs all there is, and if we want to talk Nobodies and Somebodies⌠Well, letâs compare Roxas who demonstrates Soraâs repressed anger more easily but still has all his other traits, such as positivity and caring for friends to the point of...well, thereâs no limit to it, nothing he wouldnât do. Naminè is Kairiâs hidden insecurities and fear sometimes but she would also have Kairiâs desire to just fuck things up/fight/not get left behind just fighting to get out. Just my take. Cute and terrifying could be a thing. Almost anyone who has gotten me to talk about Naminè at length has seen the topic wander to Naminè murder spree or something like it. Arenât you tired of being nice? Donât you just want to go ape shit?Â
A wish: Well, now itâs the previous answer, but, on a more serious note, I want to see Naminè getting to travel to see all the beauty in the worlds firsthand, to know people like her and she is not just a shadow, to help Ventus regain his memories of KHUX, and to make her own decisions.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Making her into a sacrifice, her personhood only affirmed so she can make the decision to give life up for the greater good (again)
5 words to best describe them: dreamer, longing, witch, artist, enigma,Â
My nickname for them: Nams or Nami, mostly so I donât need to worry about the accented e.
I absolutely love Dorian Pavus, but I got long here, so youâll see Dorian in a separate post and probably tomorrow.

Xyâs 100 Ways Challenge - Masterlist + Available Prompts
Since I love you and want to keep your dash clean, hereâs a cut. <3
post #7000
so in honor of how tomorrow, all of us will be piling onto the theater ship prima vista, which plays the story of the zodiac braves, and now docks over kugane (where the wandering minstrel will reinterpret the battle with shinryu, jazz it up and set it to song and lo, we will have a new EX trial), i have a gift for you, and it comes in the form of a new analytic lens for the history of the final fantasy series:
what if i told you every single 2-D FF game was a playâwas theater?
Repost, not reblog! Tag 6 muns you would like to get to know better when done!
Name:  Samuelle Nickname:  Sam Age: 22 Faceclaim: I donât have one for now, I use Prompto :P Pronouns: She/her Height:  5â˛2âł Birthday: March 26th Aesthetic:  Video games (mainly Final Fantasy hehe), dogs, music, books... and thatâs pretty much it! Last song you listened to: Well it was yesterday so I canât remember. Surely a song that plays in Breath of the Wild because I played tomorrow night :P
Favorite muse(s) youâve written: I canât choose between Prompto and Celes, theyâre both so different, but I connect with them on a very high level. Prompto is more like me than Celes is, but theyâre both so fun to write. âĽ
What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): Well, I wanted to create a FFXV RP blog when I completed the game because I love it a lot, and I wanted to spend some time in that universe daily. Prompto was the easiest choice for me, because I love him so much and we have a lot in common. I also loved his personality and his backstory a lot, but I wasnât sure because there were already many Promptos around, so Iâve been torn between Prompto and Aranea for a while. I ended up choosing Prompto because Aranea was too similar to Celes (in term of background), and I want my FFXV muse to be different than my FFVI one. And Iâm very glad I did.Â
What are your favorite aspects of your current muse: DAMN I just love him so much. I like everything about his personality. Heâs funny and always happy, but heâs a lot deeper than that, and itâs always fun to write some angsts related to his past or to Niflheim in general.Â
Whatâs your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing:Â Of course, FFXV game. I want my Prompto to be as close as possible to the canon, so I have to pay attention to every detail in the game.Â
Favorite types of threads: I love any type of thread, to be honest. Angst is always very fun to write, because itâs a part of Promptoâs personality that he doesnât really show. I also really love fluff, because he also deserves to have great moments hehe :P And even if Iâm selective af for that... I really love shippy threads. And I also absolutely love the mentor/student becoming sister/brother bond he has with Aranea. Â
The biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: Mmh... I canât think of anything right now. I think the hardest thing to write for me is when a muse has feelings for Prompto, but he doesnât return them. Heâs always nice so he needs to be nice, and awkward, but I donât want him to be TOO nice either.Â
