Deepavail (Diwail)
Hehe, hello I almost forgot to post today again, anyway its Diwail/Deepavail, so happy diwali to all the people how celebrate the festival!! Also only one week till Halloween!! Look who once said that she'll never write anything about Indian mythology (┬░=┬░;;) Anyways enjoy the story.
Deepavali (Btw its actully Deepavali but many people call and know it as Diwail), also known as the┬аFestival of Lights is a Hindu religious festival and one of the most important festivals within┬аHinduism.
It generally lasts five days (or six in some regions of India), and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar┬аmonth┬аKartika┬а(between mid-October and mid-November). It is one of the most popular festivals of┬аHinduism, it symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".┬а
The festival is widely associated with Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity and Ganesha, god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles, with many other regional traditions connecting the holiday to┬аSita┬а and┬аRama,┬аVishnu,┬аKrishna,┬аDurga,┬аShiva,┬а Kali,┬аHanuman,┬аKubera,┬аYama,┬аYami, Dhanvantari, or┬аVishvakarman.
Furthermore, it is a celebration of the day┬аRama┬аreturned to his┬аkingdom┬аin ┬аAyodhya┬аwith his wife Sita and his brother┬аLakshmana┬аafter defeating the demon┬аRavana┬аin┬аLanka┬аand serving 14 years of exile.
In the lead-up to Deepavali, celebrants prepare by cleaning, renovating, and decorating their homes and workplaces with┬аdiyas┬а(oil lamps) and┬аrangolis┬а(colorful artistic circle patterns).
During Diwali, people wear their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with┬аdiyas┬аand┬аrangoli, perform worship ceremonies of┬аLakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth,┬аlight fireworks, and partake in family feasts, where┬аmithai (sweets) and┬аgifts┬аare shared.
Originally a┬аHindu┬аfestival, Diwali has transcended religious lines and is also celebrated by Jains and Sikhs.┬аIt is a major cultural event for the┬аHindu,┬аSikh, and┬аJain┬аdiaspora.
The five-day long festival originated in the┬аIndian subcontinent┬аand is mentioned in early┬аSanskrit┬аtexts. Diwali is usually celebrated twenty days after the Vijayadashami (Dussehra, ┬аDasara, ┬аDashain,┬а Dashahara.(There are all the same btw)) festival, with┬аDhanteras, or the regional equivalent, marking the first day of the festival when celebrants prepare by cleaning their homes and making decorations on the floor, such as┬аrangolis.
Some regions of┬аIndiastart Diwali festivities the day before Dhanteras with┬аGovatsa Dwadashi. The second day is┬аNaraka Chaturdashi. The third day is the day of┬аLakshmi Puja┬аand the darkest┬аnight┬аof the┬аtraditional month. In some parts of┬аIndia, the day after┬аLakshmi Puja┬аis marked with the┬аGovardhan Puja┬а and┬аBalipratipada (Padwa).
Some┬аHinducommunities mark the last day as┬аBhai Doojor the regional equivalent, which is dedicated to the bond between sister and brother, while other Hindu and Sikh craftsmen communities mark this day as┬аVishwakarma Puja┬аand observe it by performing maintenance in their work spaces and offering┬аprayers.
Some other faiths in┬аIndia┬аalso celebrate their respective festivals alongside Diwali. The┬аJains┬аobserve their┬аown Diwali┬аwhich marks the final liberation of┬аMahavira, ┬аthe┬аSikhscelebrate┬аBandi Chhor Divas┬аto mark the release of┬аGuru Hargobind┬аfrom a┬аMughalprison,┬аwhile┬аNewar Buddhists, unlike other┬аBuddhists, celebrate Diwali by worshipping Lakshmi, while the Hindus of┬аEastern Indiaand┬аBangladesh┬аgenerally celebrate Diwali by worshipping the┬аgoddess Kali.┬а
The main day of the festival of Diwali (the day of Lakshmi Puja) is an official holiday in┬аFiji, Guyana, India, ┬аMalaysia,┬аMauritius,┬аMyanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore,┬аSri Lanka,┬аSuriname, and┬аTrinidad and Tobago.
