feralnette doodle because i love this au and have been obsessed with it for far too long

Wearing a wrist brace made me think about @bigfatbreak and their feralnette AU so hard that I read the entire thing again starting from the beginning, Enough Rope 🥰💕

I mean, Feralnette is basically the very antithesis of Marinette in canon, and has a similar backstory to Shadybug where she’s a complete social outcast who doesn’t have much of a support network or people who she can rely on, which leaves her more angry, brutally honest and causes her to repress her feelings. Admittedly the circumstances behind how this happens are different, but I feel like if they’d decided to have the Paris special take place primarily in the Re-Verse, we would’ve likely seen more of Alternate Marinette’s life, and I can definitely see her taking up boxing gloves instead of sewing needles in her spare time.

It’s very easy to consider/headcanon main characters as autistic when you yourself are autistic and relate to them and some of their struggles. Marinette is no different, particularly to us.

We also love characters in masks, they’re really cool to us, particularly for the lack of expression it gives them and how that’s a liiittle bit relatable to our entire life trying to read people with autism. This combines both of these things.

Autistic!Marinette suffers from mutism when agitated, stressed, or having a damn bad day. The whole Dupain-Cheng household know sign language, and she has a text to speech app for school. To signify her mute episodes, she uses masks. Just a normal cloth face mask during school hours, but other times she has a sturdier white moretta mask (the ones held by the teeth and so lack straps) and black ankle length cloak that make her feel more comfortable and frankly disuade anyone from approaching her. She also has a faux moretta mask with straps for longer durations, not really wearing the true moretta except for the purpose below. She has multiple cloaks, embroidered with different imageries. A few We’ve thought of are all on a black cloak; red briars, a red cicada line work large and centred on the back, and a cherry tree with a grey trunk and red petals.

In the equivalent of “Marinette is MDC” fics, this Marinette has a shop so as to, in a way, recycle clothes she makes for practice by selling them and using that to fund new fabrics. She uses the moretta mask to hide her identity whilst modelling what she makes. The shop is appropriately named Moretta.
