You know what REALLY REALLY REALLY delivers a soul wrenching, heartbreaking, gut punching hit of self loathing? The whole horrible truth that the girl you’ve started to fall in love with has dragged herself and her heart over hot coals for you, suffering heartbreak after heartbreak in her attempts to repay her debt and gain your love only to have been ignored and emotionally and physically injured everytime she’s tried.
Lian Song tracks Dong Hua down and relates the WHOLE truth of what he’s just discovered from Si Ming.
Dong Hua saved Feng Jui when she was younger and in an attempt to repay the debt she became a maid in Tai Chen Palace, they met once or twice but Dong Hua never really noticed her.
He then relates that Feng Jui traded her fur to Nie Chuyin in return for the cultivation she needed to gain entry into the Evil Lotus Land to save Dong Hua. Nie Chuyin then had to loan her the fur ofa common fox.
Realisation dawns for Dong Hua.

Lian Song then informs him of the true reason she wanted the Saha fruit.
He tells Dong Hua that Yi Qungti was his general during his trail spent in the mortal world and since he sacrificed his life for Feng Jui and his mortal incarnation, Feng Jui wanted to repay the kindness by cleansing his souls of demon energy and replacing it in an immortal body.
(Side note, Lian Song’s actual account of these events is in a different order but I found it easier to recount them this way.)
Dong Hua is obviously shaken by these revelations and it’s safe to say his guilt is acute.
👆He’s visibly upset,it’s the first time I can remember him showing any emotion so completely, discounting his obvious affection for Feng Jui of course.
