At the chiropractor with my beloved they pointed to a bone on display and said, โIs that a whale vertebrae?โ
He enthusiastically said it was, that one of his patients had brought him after finding it on the beach. โItโs a fossilized bone from a whale thatโs like a cross between porpoises and belugas, theyโre extinct now.โ
He added that his patients brought him a lot of interesting bones. Usually they were deer or common forest animals.
But one time.
A patient brought him a human femur.
We stared at him and he was like, โYeah, the police got involved but it was fascinating! It turns out it was the bone of a Chinese immigrant that had probably washed into the ocean from a graveyard in Hawaii from over a hundred years ago.โ
My beloved and I were indeed fascinated but now we canโt stop speculating about where this femur ended up. Who do you call to be like โI have this human boneโ? I know what tumblr would do with a human femur.
