u mean right side up or upside down?
right side up
“Respected Mr. Huckabee: Nobody marches the Jews to ovens anymore,” Katz said. “To this end we established the State of Israel and the IDF; and, if need be, we will know how to defend ourselves, by ourselves.”
this is by far the most succinct statement on israeli identity (and too an extent, a lot of jewish identity just by osmosis) in a post shoah world that i have ever read, and that is...that is very sad.
“by ourselves”
...damn. fucking dammit.
fegeleh did you see this? i think this quote is exactly what you were talking about IRT israeli hypermasculinity as backlash against perceived jewish passivity
it’s pretty much the reaction to the fears of that anon you got the other day

I have said this publicly so many times and so many of my friends continue to do it (not as a tumblr meme but just lizard ppl jokes in general) its infuriating

fegeleh I also had issues with how the author conflated the modern state of Israel with the entirety of the diaspora?
“With our origins in Judea, Jewish culture being authentically Middle Eastern and the Hebrew language being a Semitic tongue indigenous to the Levant, the Jewish people are clearly not a Western people. While Israel may be more technologically developed or more democratic than other countries in the region, neither of these components is essential enough to redefine our people’s collective identity for over three millennia. We are clearly neither a byproduct nor a branch of the Western world, but rather our own unique Semitic civilization.” (bolded for emphasis)
However one feels about Israel and the occupation, I think we can all agree that the modern state of Israel is, you know, a country in and of itself and isn’t the voice or whatever for all the Jews in the world. I mean, what Israel does as a country is not indicative of what or how every Jew in the whole world (in and out of Israel) identifies. That...that was odd. The entire piece (although I get where she was going with it) was odd.

I think Ive just rly internalized this fckd up thing about my exps w abuse IN GENERAL “not being bad enough”, its hard for me to admit that its all trauma even if other ppl “had it worse” and like I duno where that idea came from but its so damaging
to me, that's a pretty fucking classic sign of abuse. thinking that our expereinces weren't bad enough i think pretty much every survivor/victim, of all forms of abuse, goes through? i know that accepting your trauma can be so hard and take ages and be agonizing and it's ok to still be processing evertything that has happened/is currently happening to you. it takes time.
but i wanna say that i believe you and everything that happened. i believe that it was trauma and abuse and you deserve to be treated so much better than this.

i agree, though i prob wouldnt post in the tag cause i feel like its reserved for ppl whose exp’s r “worse” than mine - like, in the grand scheme of things my exp’s, while abusive, were nowhere near as traumatic as i’ve heard other ppls. i duno
yeah yeah i mean however you relate to your experienes with psychiatry is for you to define. but i think that whatever abuse you went through was legit abuse and you have as much right to call yourself a psych survivor (if that's what you want to do) as anyone else? and your pain is still real?
