The federal government has announced a freeze on over $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard University, following the university’s refusal to comply with demands from the Trump administration to curb campus activism.
In a letter sent Friday, the administration urged Harvard to implement sweeping reforms in its governance and leadership, revise its admissions policies, and conduct a review of diversity-related initiatives. It also called on the university to stop recognizing certain student organizations.
Officials warned that nearly $9 billion in total funding could be at stake if the university fails to meet these requirements.
