“Like a white fire from within” redraw of Maedhros killing orcs in the Dagor Bragollach

This is coming on shockingly well, honestly. I haven't actually fucked anything up TERRIBLY yet (there's still time) so im just...going to back away slowly and try not to celebrate that too loudly.

I spent Monday morning- when I should have been sleeping after an exhausting night failing to raise the dead- stitching the stretch jersey silver fabric onto some scrap quilting cotton, before trying to seam them onto the actual front panel itself.

Totally did not cry at all over my stabby art therapy. Ofc not. Anyway, after finishing that and finally passing out for four hours on the couch instead of my bed five feet away like a normal functional human, it's time to lay out our design!

It is at this point I realize I MAY have made the peices slightly too big with the reccomend seam allowance, and that said seam is a bit TOO thick (thicc, lol) to fold down nicely, so back to our smaller design we go.

I'm trying to remind myself that the panel ITSELF has a seam allowance included that will make it a tad smaller, so our favorite Murder Chaos Family's emblem won't look QUITE so small but in fact actually quite tasteful, but idk, Im indecisive. The five people who read this, lemme know what you think if you like 🤣

Anyway. That concluded when I fell asleep again after forgetting to eat more than the carrots and hummus I had in the fridge, so Tuesday I began the actual stitching of our appliqués to the panel itself.

This was our progress at the end of Tuesday night- only one more quarter to go. Worth mentioning I have never done appliqué or quilting in my life, and am in fact doing all this by hand bc Stabby Art Therapy while discovering that the music your goth friend gave you (while kindly suggesting you were PERHAPS too Sweet Flower Maiden to actually like) does in fact have a certain appeal is in fact a viable and workable healthcare burnout coping mechanism. Excellent for me. Maybe (Also if said certain goth friend does in fact stumble on this- well. You disclaimed that it was 'a very specific genre' when you sent it. Twice, even. Bite me. You know where I am.)

And thru the grace of god we got those final quarters sewn down this morning. I'm considering transfering hoops honestly, before I start messing around with the metallic thread. But it's THE STAR now! I rejoice! It is visibly Something!

1. Fëanor and IKEA:

"If I can create the Silmarils, this furniture won’t be a problem."

One hour later: "Where in Mandos is that sixth bolt?! I’m going to burn this entire manual!"

2. Fingolfin at family gatherings

"Stay calm, Fingolfin, today’s not the day to challenge your brother. Just stay away from the knives."

Five minutes later: "What if I stab this knife into the table to make my point?!"

3. Thingol grocery shopping:

"Alright, Lúthien, we need vegetables, bread… wait, did someone say ‘Silmarils’?! Where?! I’ll take three!"

4. Celebrimbor and knock-offs:

"These fake rings look terrible! Who in the dark pits of Angband bought them at the market?!"

Seller: "Sauron."

Celebrimbor: "Makes sense."

5. Maedhros and his younger brothers:

"Please don’t start a war over the Silmarils while I’m making breakfast."

Ten minutes later: "Why is everything on fire, Caranthir?!"

6. Maglor at karaoke:

"People say I’m a great singer. Well, tonight I’m performing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’!"

Three minutes later: "Maybe I shouldn’t have tried to sing all the parts… at once."
