Philippe x Henriette/Philiette/OTP: You did the best you could
I know there’s a lot of fall out between them, and that they’re romantically entangled with other people who they love more than each other, but it’s not like they don’t love each other. Sometimes they can both be petty or insensitive, but there’s a genuine connection between them (that’s present as the episodes go by), and it feels like sometimes they’re trying to make it work, or did try at some point but just gave up. It’s at least known that they care for one another, and show it in their own way. Henriette is suspicious of Chevalier because he’s a snake (in the actress’ own words), and she feels as if he’s going to end up harming Phillipe or using him (which he often times does). He int turn, cares for her well-being, as he is not too happy that she has an open affair with his brother or that he might put her life at risk in England, both of which he constantly shoves in Louis’ face.
I just really love those honest, heart-to-heart moments between them and you can see they’re TRYING but it’s just not quite there, and I really wish they had taken them further and strengthened their relationship. But I guess that’s what fanfics for? I really want to make a tag for them.
Louis x Maria Theresa/Maris/OTP: Warmth & grace
These two share like THREE scenes together LOL. It’s so few (to the point where I couldn’t even find a gif of the queen u Au ), but I really love the queen. I love her presence and her ‘calm before the storm’ nature. She keeps quiet when she needs to, but she’s always watching and very keen on what it happening in court. I really want to see her more in season 2. I think while Louis may not love her, he does have a sense of respect for her; he doesn’t undermine her, and she in turn is very loyal to him as a monarch. You can tell she’s trying to connect with him (BUT HIS CHEATIN’ NO GUD’ STUBBORN ASS--/exhale/) and make a sort of bond between them, and I do hope they touch on that in the second season, though I know she’s supposed to be a tragic figure. I just think if Louis would get on board, they could be a power couple like no other. I just don’t quite like Louis with any of his mistresses tbh.
Fabien x Beatrice/Fatrice/OTP: Love potion
OK I KNOW other people ship this one, but I do want to talk about them anyways. I just ADORE the idea of these two. These lovers who were both cruel creatures, who will do short of nothing for the things they believe in. I especially like the scene where he hides the gun and she hides the knife behind their backs, and there’s this tension of not knowing if they’re going to try to kill each other. I was REALLY hoping that she would last longer, and that back and forth would last longer. I know she played Fabian while he really loved her, but it was still such an amazing dynamic.
