Okay- ooc explanation!

The Phoenix stuff is all pretty obvious. He was one of the first people to ever be nice to Flan, and he always gave them respect. Even when they were silly or strange, he never blamed them or gave up. He simply continued being kind and giving his love. That alone made Flan really trust him.

Then pair that with Phoenix basically becoming it's caretaker? Flan loves Phoenix, that's it's dad right there and it won't let anyone say otherwise.

Red on the other hand...

I mean they came from the same mind so there's already something akin to sibling rivalry going on. Some days Flan is the main character and gets a buncha rp stuff done/ideas about it, other days Red is the center of attention and Flan gets somewhat forgotten about.

Even outside of that silly 4th wall context, Flan isn't the biggest fan of Red.

Not in the same way it doesn't like Graves, Red never wronged Flan, but they just don't really mesh too well with it's personality.

Still though, Flan is happy that Red treats Phoenix well.

Much like an awkward step-parent, it doesn't necessarily like Red, and they understand that, but they also do try to treat Flan well. Not to make it like them, but because that's Phoenix's baby and Red can recognize that.

If Flan brings Phoenix joy, then Red likes it. If Red brings Phoenix joy, then Flan likes them.
