It’s oceanic conservation based, yes, and you can also become a MERMAID and HAVE AN UNDERWATER HOUSE AND FARM INCLUDING FARM ANIMALS if you heal the coral around the island from the oil spill that happened prior to the story’s start!!! YOU CAN ALSO ROMANCE AND MARRY MERPEOPLE!!!
You can adopt more than one pet on land too depending on how large your house is!!! I have 3 cats!!!! I’m going for the last upgrade to have a fourth!!!!
There are magical beings to help and befriend, there’s a goddess to help & befriend, and did I mention the SHEER AMOUNT OF POTENTIAL ROMANCE PARTNERS??? Idr the exact number but it’s something like over 60 possible partners???? Holy shit???? And they just added 2 more in the recent update (one of the merpeople we couldn’t date before, and someone who was originally under the thumb of the evil mega corp we kick off the island in the story who comes back to the island for a fresh new start to her life)!!!!
And don’t even get me started on how interactive and fun all the yearly festivals are!!! They’re so cool, I love them all for their own reasons!!!!
And that mega corp I mentioned we can kick off the island??? As our town rank increases, their building LITERALLY becomes overtaken by unkillable vines that condemns their building by town rank A!!! You can then repurpose their building into a rec center that actually has functions and a bakery!!! It’s so cool!!!
There’s so much I can say, but do yourself a favor and just look up the list of romance options, because there truly feels like there’s a character for everyone. Yes there are some fan faves (Mark, Rafael, Wakuu, Scott, Surya, Theo, Noah, Raj, Leah, Agung, Semeru), but there are SO many others too!!! Besides them, for me, my faves are Millie, Denali, Yuri, Lily, Nina, Aaliyah, & Princess Miranjani!!! Honestly there’s not enough love for all of the ladies (or Raj, who is nonbinary canonically)!!!
And yes, you can customize your farmer, and this game also offers a nonbinary gender option! You can also unlock more clothing options as your town rank increases!!! I have fun with the clothes and my looks day to day in-game.
And there’s a pretty big cooking part of the game, with over 100 recipes to learn and then cook!!! They’re so cool and all sound tasty!!!
And by the way, the game is technically set in a fictionalized version of Indonesia, which is very evident in the recipes you can make and the festival themes and stuff included in them, among a lot of other things!!!!
Please play this game with me. It’s so fun, and there’s so much to do even after marriage (which I’ll do soonish, I’m still getting to know the new LIs), and there’s gonna be an eventual future update with the farmer’s kids growing up alongside the existing islander kids doing the same as time moves forward!!! This game is criminally underrated. And just because it might take a bit to progress, I really don’t think that makes it unplayable or boring! You can change how fast or slow the days go, too, which I know Wylde Flowers also allows 🥰 (Speaking of WF, play that one too please, that fandom is ALSO very small and game ALSO criminally underrated!!!)
to those who love farming sims, but want a harder, darker story than the typical farming sim: try Grimshire.
now I know, I know, the characters are animal people, but that's actually part of what makes it so difficult, it's also part of the main storyline, the cute fluffy animals make the story seem a little less heavy, and because the characters are animals, the critters you can ranch are all made up things, which are ADORABLE.
but yeah I'm obsessed with it right now. I'm barely to Summer 4, and I'm already struggling just to make it from one day to the next. it's great.
having seen both trailers, i think mandrake is more "fantasy farming and oh yeah there's eldritch creatures in the woods" whereas grave seasons is more "Something Is Killing People".
