Today's #wildshoreswednesday focuses on the humble harpoon. This prototype, while extremely simple in construction, actually marked an early turning point in the project. As I drafted ideas for hero traits and the scary beasts they would fight, I struggled to reason why these animals must be fought if I went with creature designs more familiar to reality instead of twisted, fantasy versions which could simply have an "Evil" label. So I opted for the trope of "evil mind control parasite turns neutral animals into violent beasts" so to speak. The heroes would fend of the otherwise peaceful creatures who became dangerous, then at the right time they would use their unique elemental harpoon to dislodge the parasite from the animal's skin and free them from violent mind control.
