Well, my dear reader. This post explains exactly that!

Hullbreachers are a Cybertronian race that split off from the tree very early. They predate Predacons, despite ending up looking like a mix of Predacon and your typical grounder…apart from their Terrorcon looking mouths and proboscises.

My headcanon is that all Cybertronians have vestigial proboscises fused into their intakes and faceplate grooves that used to split.  But like the plates of the skull in humans, they now have connective techno-tissue that fused all of this into the typical frame, as they don't need to rip energon from others. The infection of Dark Energon dissolves the connective tissue (like true zombies in media) allowing the split and reawakening of ancient feeding.

Hullbreachers never dropped this feature however. While other Cybertronians shed it for more “sophisticated” feeding, Hullbreachers remained predators, hunting wildlife for their metal and energon. Until the war. While a significant number of them died, the actions of the remaining population gave them their common name. They would use their mouthparts to breach the fuel lines of ships to feed on the fuel itself and the metal of the hull, adopting a feast/famine ambush predator lifestyle.

At first, they were a minor annoyance, and the holes were never big, and their spit sealed them anyway. But then ships grew rarer too. And the hullbreachers started getting more aggressive. They would outright take down ships or invade them to steal the food/fuel rations.

Alt mode: An edited and definitely not street legal pickup truck (it has a spiked ram edited into the front and blasters mounted in the bed)

Description: HYVE is a special case. He helps manage any infestations on the ship with his power, and is generally a laid back mech. When scouting though, it's a different story. He's silent, even with the scraplets inside his body, ready to deploy like cassettes. These scraplets are trained for stealth, making them far more dangerous than regular scraplets.

All of the scraplets HYVE keeps have names. Nobody knows how he tells them apart.

Alt mode: Peacock Mantis Shrimp

Description: Swiftclamp is a very colorful mech. In fact, the only thing more colorful than his paint job on this ship is his vocabulary. He swears like a sailor and is a grumpy old man personality wise, despite looking the part of a model. He does his job exceptionally well, but the minute he's off duty, he's grouchier than a wet cat. His colony was absorbed into the cause long after the war left Cybertron. Yes, that means he was forged an old man.

Type: Minipex

Alt mode: a pink fairy armadillo with gold claws and accents.

Description:

Hightail used to be a rescue Autobot before joining the Ipexions. He was very good at his job, but did not entirely agree with how the Autobots were handling things. So he left one day, planning to live on a distant colony world he had heard about in passing. He was attacked by space pirates on the way there, and they captured him. After a brief romance with the captain (they agreed to see other bots and Hightail will NOT elaborate on the details of this episode), he left, discovering the colony was under Ipexion rule. He was hesitant at first, but they welcomed him. His skills in rescue and medicine eventually earned him a spot on the Seventh Sun. He is a sculptor in his free time, enjoying making ones involving projections and shadows to reveal the designs.

Designation: Matchi

Occupation: data and specimen collection.

Alt mode: N/A

Type: Non-Cybertronian drone

Description: Matchi is a green repurposed combat drone roughly the size of a printer. She was originally built by a now long-dead race. Delta brought her aboard as a new ally, letting her choose to paint herself and learn basic skills for a surveillance bot. She's besties with Whetstone, often helping her obtain and record specimens.

Designation: Swiveltooth

Pronouns: He/him

Type: Seeker

Alt mode: Cybertronian Medical chopper

Occupation: Medic and xenoveterinarian

Description: This mech is FASCINATED with the inner working of various beings to an extreme extent. He means well, and does his job even better, but gives odd compliments like “you have nice veins”. He’s an oddball, but on this circus of a ship, he fits right in.

Designation: Sickleclaw

Pronouns: He/him

Occupation: Archivist and data manager.

Alt mode: Black panther with a greying muzzle.

Description: Sickleclaw is a wise older spark that the crew respects. They often go to him for more personal advice, and see him as almost a grandfather figure. Despite his age, he is still dangerous in combat, and surprisingly fast (when he wants to be, that is). He's generally laid back, preferring to watch before giving input. 

Designation: N/A (No one remembers)

Nickname: “Colt” (after the gun, not a baby horse)

Pronouns: He/him (but he doesn’t mind others)

Type: Six-changer (?)

Occupation: Cook(energon mixer), sharpshooter and unofficial morale booster

Works in: Fuel and reactor management and mechanics.

Description: Fleececharger is a sweet femme that stands at about 24’. She has a beast mode of a Valais Blacknose sheep with ram horns that can absorb and redirect electricity. Her fleece stores the energy until it is released from her horns with powerful precision. She has a habit of standing in thunderstorms and “challenging” the sky to be struck by lightning. She becomes slightly manic when charged. She has sharp dentae and fangs despite being a lamb. She was forged in the rural area of Tranix, learning about the Ipexions at the community center, where she later joined.

Job: Currency management 

Type: Outlier with contract manipulation 

Alt mode: Cybertronian bomber jet

Description: This mech has a very storied history. They have done morally questionable things for credits multiple times before joining the Ipexion (i.e. starting a religion on a distant planet to convince the locals they were a deity in order to sell the offerings for credits). She has a habit of stealing things to play with.
